There is smart and dumb in all breeds. Rotties (and part rotties) aren't dumb but are dominant and stubborn. Consistent discipline and praise is needed. If you want a rottweiler and are prepared for the challenges by all means get one. There's rotties doing work as search and rescue dogs and many other tasks that intelligence and trainability is needed.

From my experience, Rotti's are not stupid. They are very determined and stubborn, so someone without experience is likely to have a nightmare pet on their hands when the dog gets to it's full size. That said, they can be gentle, loving pets. I have an aquaintance who's Rotti is a giant lap dog. One of my dogs is 1/2 Rotti and he is a big love too.

No, quite the opposite, I have heard that the rottweilers are quite intelligent. If you do get one, don't encourage aggressive behavior in this dog, teach it love and gentleness. An agressive rottweiler is like lit dynamite.

I am a dog trainer for guard/attack dogs and I have had three Rotts and no they are not dumb BUT they are very bull headed. You have to be more bull headed than your Rott if you want it to turn out as planned. And they make exellent guard/attack dogs if you get them as a pup and are an experienced trainer. Even if you have kids. None of my three Rotts never turned on any one unless told to. And my kids rode them like horses. But do be careful in your training them.

There are stupid humans and smart humans.
There are stupid rotts and smart rotts.
Mostly it is the human who cannot train, not the dog who can't learn.
