picked up a stray with the eyes crusted closed got the eyes cleaned up then when bathing it noticed a bunch of fleas we drowned the fleas in rubbing alchohol then dried her off and shaved her. couldn't find any more fleas on her but she has a cold like a chest congestion. so while i took a hot shower last nite i left her in the bathroom with me so she could get steam air and then i rubbed her chest . it seemed to help a little bit. anyone have any ideas on how to help this poor baby?

i couldn't take her in last nite it was late when i got her home and i just wanted to take care of her asap i will take her to the vet today after work. no i put the fleas in a cup full of rubbing alchohol i wouldn't douse her in alchohol i'm not stupid. we shaved her b/c she was covered in fleas and her hair was matted and it seemed like the best way to get all of the bad things off her. she's adorable and doing well this morning thank goodness she even seems more tranquil and not so restless when we hold her or when she tries to sleep.

Poor baby!
So far, you're on a roll. You'll want to get her shots, and the vet should be able to prescribe antibiotics for the infection.
Ordinarily I wouldn't reccomend shaving her either, but since she was dirty and matted and infested with fleas, that took care of a bunch of problems at once. Most cats don't let themselves get that dirty, so I would say your baby was very sick indeed.
Get her kitten chow: She will need the extra calories and nutrition to grow up. But don't worry about feeding her wet food, except maybe as a treat.
She sounds like one lucky kitten!

Try to get her as comfortable as you can. But did you use rubbing alchohol to clean her entire body? because that might have caused her the chest congestion. And why did you shave her? Buy some dried cat food from the store for now and you can probably look around your area for signs looking for a missing cat. If all else fails you should take her to a Humane Society of the US animal shelter(where they do not put the animals to slee) in your area. I think you can also take her to PetSmart because they do have an adoption program.
I'm sure you'll get more help on this topic...sry if I wasnt too much of help.
good luck!

You should not have shaved her. Feed her appropriate milk, keep her warm and get her to a vet to check her ears for mite and to get her dewormed.
Takes a few days to get back on top of things but ridding her of fleas is a great help. They tend to drain young animals of all life-spirit. That's probably where the cough came from. If it is a survivor it should improve now.
If you are not planning on keeping her.....she will end up dead probably after pining away in an animal shelter somewhere at the end of the world.
Take the animal in or kick it out... up to you basically.

You should make an appointment today with the vet. It sounds as if this kitten needs medical care. They can also advise you on flea treatments which are safe for a kitten.

First of all you need to be praised for all you have done already.I hope there are more like you!! I think the kitty will be fine, the chest congestion should be attended to ,if it continues to last ,there are some vets who will give discounts when you bring a stray. You done a great job!!

kittens are particularly prone to respiratory infections. Get her to a vet so that he can prescribe an antibiotic. If you explain that it is a stray that you want to help get well and get a home, he may be willing to give you a deal on the cost.

i agree with julie. but you shouldnt have shaved her and used alcohol on her. do you know what alcohol feels like on opened wounds? ouch!! bless you for saving her, please take her to a vet. im sure she will need some medical attention because fleas and ticks take all of their iron out of their blood.
