Begin with an interview with the parent(s). Ask questions about the child's learning style, interests, demonstrated levels of achievement. If you show an interest (love) for their child, parents are more willing to accept and trust you. If something comes up during the school day, and the thought of contacting the parents comes to mind, do it. Parents would rather hear from you first, if there has been a small accident on the playground or a fight with another child. As you conduct the interview and in subsequent meetings, you can weave in ideas for learning support, but tie it to what they have already told you. Parents want their children to be successful, and in most cases they are willing to help.

Invite the parent into the classroom to read to the class or share a talent or lead a craft . Always greet the parents at the door and make your self available for the parents to talk to you. When talking about their child concerning their child's behavior always ask how they behave at home? How do they handle the behaviors at home? Always show appreciation for their role as a parent and they will appreciate your role.
Also we have a parent night at my school. Last month we went to a bead store and made jewelry. sometimes we got to dinner or a cooking class. It 's a great way to talk to parents in a different setting. It's great for the other parents to get to know each other too.
