What are proper food safety techniques for my cat ?

well, first off, I would make sure your cat has clean, fresh, uncontaminated water. Then I would make sure your cat's canned food, once opened, is stored in the fridge with a proper cover on it, and then I would also make sure your cat's dry food is stored in a bag and sealed away from moisture and bugs.

Above is correct but also clean the cat's bowls every few days. I do not use canned food at all...dry is better for them and you can leave a lot out for your cat if you will be away for a few days.
