I am in China, I am not Chinese. It was my preconceived notion that the Chinese are very conservative by nature but I was so surprised when I got here. Women here wear the skimpiest of shorts and from what I read from Time.com, sexual revolution is now happening on the highly urbanized places here (e.g. Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, etc.). So I do not think your statement is true.

Chinese women generally start a litle later than their American counterparts.
As someone mentioned, there are really two Chinas. The big cities are more modern and more similar to the US, while the agricultural areas remain more backward, compared to the US and the women begin their sexual lives a little later than their city-living countrymen.
Premarital sex is illegal in China. Those who engage in this behavior, are less respected and looked down upon. This information comes from my many Chinese friends.

I read in Elle Girl magazine that Chinese girls lose their virginity at around 18.3 years, whereas Americans are around 17 I think (sorry, not positive). So really, it's only around a year different.

generalisations on chinese are often wrong... and often right. its hard to tell, because a chinese girl that is 30, 25 and 20 are completly different... so many things changed in so little time you are looking at a huge gap.
