I feed raw meat all the time, certainly not just once a week. They have a varied diet of meat, fish & eggs, but not a lot else. Dogs do get all their nutrients from different cuts of meat from different animals. For those of you that just can't see it as a healthy way for dogs to live, then at least do some study on it, and learn a little more about how they make dog food and what goes into it that a dog not only doesn't need but causes half of the problems they have. I will never feed commercial kibble again. PS. A dogs digestive system is totally different to ours and as such copes with the bacteria that would make humans ill.

NO.......... It will not make him mean. At least I have never had any proble with any of my dogs. I feed mine the raw fresh diet and it has never had either one of those effects on them.
here is something i have found for you
Basically, this IS a myth. There is NO causative relationship between eating raw meat and wanting to kill animals. It has nothing to do with what a dog is fed and has everything to do with natural prey drive, training and socialization. For example, some breeds like the husky can have a very high prey drive. If raised around animals and trained not to chase them, a lot of them will have no problem co-existing happily NO MATTER WHAT THEY ARE FED. With a lot of dogs, the instinct is a very ingrained primal one and the sight of an animal running can bring this out in them NO MATTER WHAT THEY ARE FED. Dogs can easily distinguish between what they are protecting and what they are eating.
Remember that kibble has not been around that long. For generations man has been feeding raw meat and bones to their dogs. I do not think in the hard reality of life dogs would have lasted too long as man's helpers in the field, on the farm or elsewhere if eating raw meat gave them a blood lust for the other animals around. Imagine an outback station owner for example. The dogs eat the foods the producer produces - the leftover cuts of the animals they slaughter for themselves or the old culls. The nearest town is a couple of hours by light plane or perhaps a 10 hour drive down the track. Before transport such as this, it may have taken a couple of days to get to the neighbors place. Now imagine if all the dogs they use to help them with the stock killed their stock because of the raw meat they were eating. Do you think they would still keep dogs? Would the Australian Cattle Dog or Kelpie have been developed as a breed? I doubt it - they would have all been shot a long long time ago. Yep, some dogs may turn out to be 'stock killers'. This happens. But as we have found, even kibble fed dogs can be stock killers.

No! Just an old wives tale. However, if you plan on feeding an entirely raw diet, it must be done carefully and correctly. I would recommend doing some research on a technique called BARF. There are many good Yahoo groups out there to help. And, for the record, dogs systems CAN handle raw meat. Provided the meat has been handled correctly, your dog is perfectly safe. In fact, raw bones are safer for dogs as cooking makes them brittle. Good luck!

Not if you treat him decent and view him as a DOG. Raw food is what dogs EAT if given a chance. Put kibble down and a piece of raw meat and most dogs will go for fresh meat every time. It's natural.
Further left to their own devices dogs would eat carrion, fresh meat and whatever they found to survive. Dogs to that on a regular basis.
Most of the "vicious" dogs I've seen were fed commercial dog food...if one wanted to twist that it could be said feeding dog food makes them vicious. My dogs have eaten raw meat, including whole rabbits, for years and had no health problems.

No. My dogs are what I like to call "a living garbage disposal" (and for those of you out there who think that you shouldn't feed dogs "human food", it depends on the dogs. My dogs aren't fat and it doesn't upset their digestive systems, so its ok). We feed then scraps of raw meat that are trimmed off of what we plan on cooking (They get lots of chicken fat/trimmings, and deer trimmings, because beef and pork tend to come pre-trimmed moreso than chicken, and we kill and process our own vension) They do not have "blood lust", in fact they are very gentle about taking the scraps of food from our hands without biting or anything. They love getting their little treats of meat (or anything else really!)

No I feed my dogs a raw diet. It's called the BARF diet for dogs you can look it up online. It's good for them since this is what dogs ate years ago before commercial dog food. Dog food has so many additives and bad things in it unless you get a good food like Solid Gold or Nutro Ultra. They can be bought a Petsmart.

No , I wouldn't think so , but it could well give him/her worms and a dozen other problems that can be very serious. Although many animals do have a better tolerance for raw meat it can hurt them , to a little lesser degree , just as it could cause us health problems. Now if you ever get a lizard....ie an iguana , raw meat or any meat will make them agressive and meaner than hell...

That needs training. Like if he has got to fight to get his meat or you kick him when he eats meat... that would make him vicious and mean.
Dogs are meat-eaters and even if he is eating kibble it contains meat. Just a 'slightly' different form.

No. There's no psychological difference between eating raw and cooked meat when it comes to desire to kill. Dead is dead.
Dogs that have a chance to chase and kill once... now that can be a tough genie to put back in the bottle.
