If you want a happy woman it is. It's not necessary for guys. A woman get's naked and we are usually ready before she finishes unbuttoning her blouse.
That said, really good sex involves a whole lot more than foreplay. It involves creativity, anticipation, imagionation and preperation. Not practical to do every day. However if you don't do it once a week you are missing out. Forplay is just a minor aspect of this tension building. It can even be skipped if the tension is high enough. She'll be ripping YOUR clothes off instead of the reverse. Remember for the ladies sex is a whole lot more than a physical experience. For dudes if you start way before the foreplay it will be for you as well.
Role playing is an excellent way to learn how to do this.

Why not? Forplay before actual play will be an intersting and more conducive for action getting to satisfactory destination.

It is for me for a while now... It might be related to the antidepressants I'm on and the emotional needs that got stronger
