First of all the aeroplane has to be designed to meet the requirements both operational and safety.

Parts of the design will be tested on test rigs and also computer models will be assessed.

The prototype will be built and test carried out along with a number of deveoplment aircraft until the final production specification is achieved.

THe aircraft components will be made and shipped to a factory where they are all assembled.

Follow these directions:
1) Make a fuselage - the passenger-and-crew compartment
2) Stick on a matched pair of wings
3) Stick some spoilers, flaps and slats on those wings
4) Stick on a vertical tail assembly at the rear
5) Attach a horizontal stabilizer onto the tail assembly
6) Stick on a vertical rudder panel onto the tail
7) Attach horizontal elevators to the tail
8) Attach some mechanisms to control the many movable panels
9) ... then
Take a 20-year course in the completion of your airplane

First of all you decide which type of airplane you want to build. My hubby is building a RV-7. He bought a kit called the fast build kit because the wings and the fuselage shell is intact. You still need to organize the instrument panel, buy the radios, engine, prop, and install them yourself, not to mention doing ALL the electrical wiring yourself, building the tail, rudder, interior cabin...It's a LOT of work!!!!

When he's completed building it someone from the FAA comes out to inspect it. After approval you need to be sure you can fly this particular aircraft so you need to go up with an instructor and get signed off. No passengers are allowed for a certain amount of hours of you flying the aircraft by yourself, which you need to keep a log of. Also, you need to keep records of you building the aircraft, which will also be reviewed by the FAA.

The total cost is about $60-70K, (varies because of the type of engine and prop you want), but resale would be about $90-100K

easy search the web there are lots of sites that sell planes in kit form for example type in to yahoo mk 26 spitfire, the actual original spitfires produced from 1936 -45 wont be there but ther is a company in australia that makes them in kit form, they are designed to be built at home by amatuers, all the machining is done and they are certified in several countries, however thats just the begining, different countries have different regualtions for flying and such and then there is the cost too to fly a wwII spitfire for an hr costs approx £5,000 so its not cheap. As i said there are many different firms who manufacture kits in the world and all of them are on the web. Good Luck

The parts are all sent to the factory where they are assembled on a sort of production line... not quite like cars on a conveyor belt though. They are moved to different positions in a hangar and a different team of engineers dedicated to a certain phase of production set to work on it. It then moves to the next stage etc etc There are tests along the way and it is NDT'd (non destructive tested) where the aircraft is x-rayed to detect minute cracks. The engines and avionics are tested, then it is sent to the customer.

Take an A4 piece of paper and fold it in half. Fold in the sides to make wings. Aim it at your teacher.

Even my six-year old knows this!
