Your hair isn't oily- your scalp is.
Hair is not alive except below the surface of the scalp.

You could experiencing excess sebum production on the scalp (oily-ness), is your face slightly oily? Is the scalp oily despite frequent shampooing?

If so- The condition is called seborrhea - overactive sebaceous glands. Caused by a number of factors:
~ disturbance in hormonal balance
~ poor nutrition
~ stress
~ chemical and mechanical factors
~ enviornmental factors
DO NOT use a clarifying shampoo. Think of your scalp as you do your face- if you strip the surface of all oils, your skin works harder to reproduce them and at a faster rate.

In order to stop the skin from getting oily quickly, you need a shampoo that is effective at absorbing the surplus oil wihtout irritating the skin or stimulating the sebaceous glands.
Look for a shampoo thaty have clay or alumina in them.

System Professional by Wella has a series called Regulate that you use only to get your scalp back on a regular cycle- you don't need to use it for the rest of your life. It got my husband's scalp back to normal in 3-4 weeks.

buy a shampoo for oily hair DO NOT use shampoo for dry hair as itll only make the hair more oiler . Try not to use conditioner if u feel u need to use conditioner then only use it on the ends of your hair . when shampooing your hair do not rub vigorisly on the scalp because itll stimulate the sebacous glands and make it more oily (went to hairdressing school)

Do you use a clarifying shampoo? That will really dry your hair out. Also this may sound weird, and I don't know what color your hair is but if you just rub in a little baby powder-it will not show and it will control the grease.

i have the same problem -- i just don't use that much conditioner...(just a little on the ends) and throughout the day, i try to keep my hands off of it...since the oils from your hands can make your hair all nasty.
