Which vitamins or cat food brand would you recommend? You see, my aunt had a cat and she fed him friskies dried cat food. adter some time, the thing had kidney failure and almost lost its life! Vet said it was because of the very high sodium content in friskies cat food.

I myself have never verified that but i would like to give the best that i can afford to my cat. any suggestions? Thanks so much!

Don't feed supplements - they are not necessary. Choose a premium complete cat food. Cat food has changed dramatically in the last decade and Dry Foods are the prefered option. Brands like Hills Science Plan and Iams are ideal.

A lot of things can cause Kidney Failure in cats - one of the mosr common causes is PKd (Polysistic Kidney Disease) and unless the cat had an Ultrasound Scan by a vet qualified to look for this then this can not be ruled out. Unfortunately this is quite a common genetic disorder.

Friskies and Whiskas are cheap cos they're filled with everything else but the good stuff. Try Science Diet or IAMs. As for supplements, I dont think you need anything more if you're feeding your cat the good dried food. Maybe canned cat food once in a while to give your cat a treat.
When i want to treat my cats, i buy chicken or fish and steam it, without seasoning.

Stay with foods low in magnesium and ash. Male cats are more prone to urinary tract infections.

The best food I have found is Dads Special Diet dry cat food. It is good nutrition, so no extra vitamins are needed. The last male cat I owned lived to be 17 years old. There's a testamonial. (ps...the price is very affordable)

Don't supplement a cat's diet! Almost all cat foods are already balanced very well and feeding them extra vitaminds can throw it off. For a regular healthy cat, the big brands you see in the pet food store and grocery store are fine. Look on the cat food for an AAFCO statement saying something to the affect that it has been used in feeding trials for maintence.

NEVER feed Friskies, Deli Cat etc. I would feed Iams, Eukenuba or Science Diet. Those cheap foods can hurt their kidneys or cause them to form crystals in their bladders. Both are very serious problems. Don't be cheap about his food. Get the good stuff.

Sience diet food is by far the healthiest food to feed your cat or dog,a little expencive but worth it.I would reccomend that to any pet owner. As far as vitimans go the food contains all the essential daily supplement your cat requires.

This sounds like a dominance issue rather than a "mating" issue. Your older cat wants to show his dominance over the new cat. This is not very uncommon. Dogs will hump other dogs of the same sex all the time to show their dominance..they will even do it to people to show they are the alpha dog. Let them work out who is the boss, as long as they are not truly injuring each other. As the kitten gets older it too may try and show its dominance and may challenge your older cat. They will work out a hierarchy.
