I realise that you already know the answer to the question. However purgatory has often been reffered to as "the gold mine of the priesthood" since it is such a lucrative source of income.
The Roman church says "By this craft we have our wealth!"
It has NOTHING whatsoever to do with salvation, it is just a man made teaching to further enslave the people.
The teaching of Purgatory was established by Gregory 1st in 593, so what happened before that? when people died did they not go to purgatory!
What a lying whore the RC church is.

Jesus has risen from the dead to pay the debt of death due for your sin. It is a free gift to everyone. The trick is that you have to accept it. When you die if you have not learnt about the lessons of love Jesus taught and accepted him as your saviour you will invariabily be stuck in purgatory which is like a temporary hell. When you die there will be a great light that will shine right through you and expose you for everything that you are. If you have accepted Our Lords saving grace you will be shown to be perfect and proceed into the light to join God in eternal life. If you are still an unrepent sinner you will hide in the shadows of purgatory until the pain of you shame burns away your sinfulness after which you can proceed to the light. Jesus died so that all will be saved. Even if you didn't want to be. It won't be just a slight headache type pain though. It will be like flesh burning and tearing type pain. But the good news is you don't have to endue that when you choose Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour.

to that end, the Catechism of the Catholic Church states: "All who die in God’s grace and friendship, yet nonetheless imperfectly purified, are certainly certain of their eternal salvation; yet after dying they undergo purification, with the intention to realize the holiness mandatory to circulate into the exhilaration of heaven. The Church provides the call purgatory to this very final purification of the decide on, that's completely diverse from the punishment of the damned" (CCC 1030–one million). the belief of an after-dying purification from sin and the end results of sin is likewise pronounced in the hot testomony in passages at the same time with one million Corinthians 3:11–15 and Matthew 5:25–26, 12:31–32.

Purgatory, as they taught in Catholic school is a place between heaven and hell. A place where souls rotted before they were shown thier destiny.
I don't buy the dour predictions of this fate. I do however leave open the ability for "people who don't know they are dead yet"?

It is a state wherein you are niether welcome to heaven nor condemned to hell. You are now considered to be part of the suffering church, wherein you can only be saved by the militant church, that is the people living on earth. How? It is through prayers asking God to save the souls of purgatory, for souls in purgatory cannot ask for it.

Purgatory is a man made myth. It is not supported by the bible. Make sure you are in right standing with God before you die.

Purgatory could be the world we are in, rhetorically, fire is used to purify any metals or liquids but a soul!
So, hardship, pain, sufferings, mourns etc. are all part of it.

I believe Purgatory is (was) a Catholic belief and is not referenced at all in the Bible... in fact the Bible says "It is appointed to man once to die, but after this, the judgement."
