Wow, there are so many causes for drug abuse, The first, of course, is if a parent does drugs when the seed is planted, both parents included, the infant will probably be born with fetal alcohol syndrome. I cannot remember the exact diagnosis. If social environment is filled with druggies, if insecure and abused, or if neglected, the infant-child-teen have great chances of becoming a drug abuser. If parent or guardian takes prescription drugs, or if the infant-child-teen takes prescription drugs for a period of time, drug dependency my occur. These are only a few causes. Most medical professionals, if educated in meds, will watch consumption of addicting meds and not prescribe certain meds for long periods of time. Hope this helps.
