I won't list any advantages because I think everyone else covered the subject very well, but speaking as an only child, who was happy being an only child, I never learned about sibling rivalry and the fighting, squabbling that happens, so when my stepsons moved in with my husband and I, I had a hard time learning to deal with all of that.

Ability to give them the best and more. No sibling rivalry. No pushing of responsibilities when coming to take care of you in old age.

Disadvantage:- the child won't have close family support in the future, if only child dies, there's no more, the child feels the burden of supporting you alone, he might even not like to live with you when he is married.

Obviously in having only one child there is a financial advantage and you give more to them in a qualitative sense, but lack of compaionship for them is a consideration.

for 1 --- give all your time and attention... more money for care and education.... less worries all around....

for more ---- siblings to grow up with.... siblings to help with parents in later years...... built in support group in tuff times... unconditional love.... play mates.... more love for parents... more kisses... more little arms to hold you tight... more * i love you momies* and *dadies* etc.......

but the bottom line is...... are you and hubby willing and able to support and love more than 1 child ????? God bless
