I was wondering if anyone knew about the pier diem. My husband seems 2 think that after he comes from overseas he will get a pier diem which is either $3.00 or $3.50 a day 4 his time over there. And he also thinks he is going to receive a clothing allowance for being active duty Army. I'm wondering if either of these are tru and if so how much is the clothing allowance and when should we expect to see either one?

Per Diem is given sometimes, like if you are on TAD (Army and Airforce call it TDY), or when you are transferring. How much you get for it can vary. Here's a website where you can look up the amount. You can also get partial perdiem.

https://secureapp2.hqda.pentagon.mil/perdiem/perdiemrates.html

Your orders will say if you are authorized perdiem.

Clothing allowances vary by which Branch you are in, whether you are male or female, and in some cases what paygrade you are (Navy E7 -E9 get a different amount than Navy E1-E6). The reason for the difference is because, obviously, the uniforms for the different branches (and different genders) cost different amounts, and it's meant to offset the replacement costs.

The 2006 paychart shows the clothing allowance for a male in the Army to be

$1283.49 for the initial allowance (this is what they give them in bootcamp, but turn around and take right back, because they give them all the uniforms).

$356.40 for Basic Uniform Allowance or $511.20 for Standard Uniform Allowance.

Uniform allowances are paid every year on the first payday after your anniversary in the military, except for the Navy, where when you make the rank of E7 it switches to the anniversary of your promotion to that paygrade, because you switch uniforms at that time, so they "reset" your annual countdown.

Here is a website that should be able to explain what pay and allowances he should be getting, under what circumstances he will be able to get it, and how much it should be.

Hope this helps.

Yes there is a per diem that he will receive upon his return to the states. Your local finance office will turn in the paper work so that it will show up in your pay. The clothing allowence he will recieve depends on his rank and is paid normally 30 days after the anniversary date of his enlistment. You can find more in depth answers regarding the per diem on the mypay website and you may also look there for the clothing allowence amounts. My husband is currently serving in Iraq and we received clothing allowence while he has been deployed and were informed of the per diem in his pre deployment briefing. God Bless and hope this helps.

For enlisted soldiers the clothing allowance is like $500 on the standard rate. Don't spend too much of it on anything besides uniforms, though. The new ACUs are more expensive than the old BDUs and don't last as long. Also the Army just announced we're getting rid of the Class As and replacing them with the Dress Blues. They're like $300 a set.

When he gets back he will get a per diem check for an amount per day that he was deployed.

The clothing allowance depends on his rank and branch (I think only enlisted Active soldiers get it because reserve soldiers exchange their uniforms)
