Hoping to buy either a 2000 Silverado 1500 or a 2001 F150 4.6L. I just need to know, which one would be the most reliable of the two?

I have a nice reliable car right now and for the past 5 years, have only needed to do oil changes, brake jobs, set of tires, and a tune up. I want that reliability. Which one should I get?

I have a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado (2wd, 4.8L auto) and my best friend has a 2002 Ford F150 (2wd, 4.6L auto)- here is how they stack up:

Reliablity- each truck is nearing 100,000 miles with no major mechanical problems. The Ford makes a whining noise above 4500 rpms, but that is all.

Power- hands down the Chevrolet rules this one. The 4.8L puts the 4.6L to shame in every department- towing, hauling, acceleration, etc. No comparison here.

Fuel Economy- both trucks get around 14-16 mpg (in the real world)

Interior- Ford has more leg room by far, but not as much head or shoulder room as the Chevrolet, yet it still seems roomier. Ford has the more car-like interior as well. Ford has better seats.

Driving- Ford has the more car-like ride, smooth yet no steering feel whatsoever, almost feels fragile when you grip the wheel and gear selector. Chevy's ride is more truck-like, solid, heavy feeling components, feels like a truck.

This is a honest comparison, and I hope it helps, you'll be happy with either truck.

I may be biased but Ford trucks are the best. They're the number one selling pick-up in North America for a good reason because they are the best! Ford trucks are better on gas and the parts are cheaper. Go with Ford.

They are both nice. Chevy is probably best but Ford comes in second.

both are good trucks but from my experience you have a choice steering & front end parts having to be replaced every 30,000 to 40,000 miles (chevy) or ignition\spark\fuel problems at or around 90,000 miles (ford). but either way you would probably be happy with either truck

Ford sells more but chevys look nicer. have you seen the colorado? they are hot! I looked it up and they both are equally dependable chevy good except in fuel category and ford good except ignition category. however ford "very good" in crash test compared to just "good" and "fair" on chevy. both equally "very good" on dependability, one better than other in crash test. You decide.
