When you say regular police it confuses the issue slightly. The Metropolitan Police have a large number of officers armed on a regular basis. Anti terrorist, Royalty protection. Diplomatic protection, Firearms unit. Even the River unti has a highly trained firearms unit.

All other forces in Great Britain have firearms units, Dip Protection and the like and forces like Gloucestershire, Thames Valley etc have substantial royalty protection units.

Britain also has the Ministry of Defence Police who are all firearms trained and the vast majority routinely armed. I don't know the current force strength but it is about four thousand. There is also the Atomic Energy police who are a similar body and also mainly armed. I do not know about the British Transport Police but I would be completely amazed if they did not have firearms officers who are routinely armed and on patrol on the tube and mainline stations.

It follows that a significant number of British police are armed and I suspect that most countries with overtly unarmed officers have a significant number of covert carriers of firearms.

With the British position particularly there is a gulf between the requirements for a police officer to pass before he can be armed and those required by the MOD Police or UKEA. Also the Home Office police relicencing scheme is far more stringent than that of these two forces.

So I would suggest that there is a significant number of police carying guns. Particularly in the Metropolitan police and certainly in the MOD Police and UKEA.

No, there are lots of countries where guns are not carried by regular police. I haven't researched it, but I would guess there are probably more countries whose regular police don't have guns than those that do.
