I adopted my kitty 1 1/2 years ago. He was a feral cat that was taken in by a shelter. When we first brought him home, he did not like to be near people. Now, he let's us pick him up and pet him. He even sleeps next to me sometimes. He's a sweet soul. But....he bites at my feet when I sit in the recliner. Sometimes, he'll sit in the window and go into attack mode when I walk by. It's rarely enough to break the skin, so I think he's just trying to play, but it still hurts! Any suggestions?

Mine do not scratch me until eventually restricted. yet I easily are transforming into kneaded through them, and in no way continuously with their claws retracted. that frequently ends up in my giving them a trim to eliminate the pointy tip. And mine have in no way bitten me. a pair kittens did some 'love bites' yet I right away educated them that it became no longer to be executed. And mine are all rescues. In different words, no particular breed. yet when a situation about in no way being bitten or perhaps by coincidence scratched is of best value then a crammed toy cat offered in shops is really what you pick. understanding cat language is between the first steps in assuring that you received't get scratched. They prepare their mood by ear and tail signs and indications, so in case you mess with them at the same time as they're indignant or annoyed, you'll go in the direction of the outcomes.

There's really not much you can do. You could declaw, or if you're against that, you could get those plastic caps for his claws. That will at least keep you from getting scratched. As far as biting goes, maybe try some hot sauce rubbed on your feet. It sounds dumb, but maybe if there's something really hot or icky on your feet, he'll get something in his mouth that he doesn't like and he'll stop biting. Good luck. Feral cats can be great, but training them??? Yeah. That on par with gnomes and fairies.

Declawing is cruel and not the answer, because I understand he bites, just as mine does. He loves us and wants to play, but my legs and arms are full of scratches by his teeth. I play with him when he wants though. My husband who gets a severe look and shouts at him when he does that, has no scratches. Also you can throw a small furry toy (in the form of mouse, ball, etc) to play with when he is in the mood, instead of you.
