Why do people misjudge Muslims?

Question

People Say:

1. They don't give women their rights. When Islam gave women back their pride and dignity.
2. They are Terrorist? When Islam means peace and Muslims always try to promote peace.

People judge without learning about Islam and then getting to know Muslims first.

Did you know Most Muslims: Think of Christens, Catholics and people of other religions as:

1. Alcoholics
2. No shame with what they wear.

No offense was intended. I just want to rase this issue in mature manner.

No where in the Qur’an dose it permit Honor Killing. That is a tribal thing and not an Islam Thing.

And I am sure there are thing that people do and it is mention not to do in there own religion. My main point was Don’t Generalise based of few. Some of you people didn’t understand my point at all.

About the person who is quoting the Qur’an, he is quoting a poorly translated one that makes Islam look bad. Well I can do the same with the bible. But I am not here to criticize, I am only satiating Don’t generalise a religion based on some few extremist.

well thanks for realizing that Muslims are misjudged, because popular belief about hte religion is brought about by propaganda, racism, and ignorance. Media focuses only on the extremists that are causing violence and destruction. WE ARE NOT ALL EXTREMISTS. however, i dont think those things about Christians. I mean, there are some people that have absolutely NO shame in what they wear, but i cant control that. and there are people that are alcoholics, but thats just like hte misconception that all Muslims are terrorists. Not all of us are terrorists, just like not every Christian is an alcoholic.

Let me start by pointing something out....

You say that people judge without learning about Islam or getting to know Muslims, but then a couple sentences later you are explaining how Muslims do the EXACT SAME THING!!! If Muslims do not want to be judged by others, then they should not be judging anyone themselves.

Now on to your questions/comments....

I don't think you will find anyone naive enough to tell you that every Muslim is a terrorist or a bad person. I only know a couple Muslims, but they are all very nice people and certainly not terrorists.

Regarding women's rights... It has to do with the fact that the women pretty much don't have any rights. You say Islam gave women back their pride & dignity, but to the rest of the world, it would appear that Islam women are basically told what they can and can not do by their husbands. In addition, there are stories of Islamic women being beaten, stoned & murdered for exposing too much flesh. How can any of that be construed as the woman having rights when an Islamic woman (In an Islamic country) can not wear whatever she wants, go to school, get a job, etc. without her husbands permission? That's basically having no rights or freedom at all.

Regarding the terrorist thing... Do you really need to ask why people might think that way? Like I said, it's naive of anyone to say ALL Muslims are terrorists, but let's take a poll of all the world's terrorists and see what the percentage are that are Muslim. The fact is MOST terrorists ARE Muslims. That's not to say that most Muslims are terrorists though.

muslims are increasingly intolerant of other people -- then again who isnt -- the only difference is most people dont go and strap a bomb on themselves and blow up innocent people.

I dont get why the entire muslim planet protested over a cartoon, but when a child is killed they dont even bother to care. Stupidity I tell you.

I dont think it is anything to do with Islam itself, rather most people in the areas of the world where Islam is most prevelant are also the least educated.

It goes both ways if you ask me. Why learn about Islam when there are so many Muslims who are intolerant of contrasting beliefs or people who are just plain different.

Well talking about our problems is a start do not be misled by stereotyes anf or sure there will be prejudiced people I know because I'm a minority and come from an immigrant family. i'm a christian but not form the accepted denomination of Chrisiatianity that makes me a heretic in a country I was born and raised. There are a quarter of a million of us and we cannot have a church apparently the government finds it difficult to allow us to worship. SO stop complaining and educate

Try to read the Quran or try to talk to someone ...I don't think so that a good muslim will think christians or catholics as alcoholics or whatever u said. If u heard something like that from a muslim then I think that person he doesn't understand what he's saying. islam doesn't teach us anything like that. Not only Islam , No religion teach us to be cruel to other people.

Of the major three religions, Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, guess which one has a ritual called "honor killings"? I'm sure you've heard of it. I'm not sure how a thing like honor killings gives women pride and dignity.

most people misjudge these sort of things because instead of studying, they take the "sound bites" they have heard, and cast not well researched thoughts on others' foundations, instead of sharing each of our collective information - and if we did we'd all win because we'd realize that in the end we are all Abraham's children (of which we all agree), Peace and Blessings Be to the Prophets in all the Faiths who helped us discover these Truths. you are my Brother in the Abrahamic Covenant, and perhaps Allah sounds just like saying El Yah for a reason - and that's the real lesson we're here to learn.

Most people misjudge cuz they dont even know what the religion is. It's just sad. People are so ignorant and dependant on media.

Look at people of other religion. The Israelis are killing innocent people in Palestine, but nobody calls Jews terrorist. And I know people of which religion were responsible for the death of Jesus!!

People need a scapegoat. Especially Americans. We're afraid to fear out own government who lies to us so we blame all Muslims for what a select few are doing.

Of course, it is also unfair for Muslims to hate Catholics and think they are all alcoholics. Its the same hatred wearing a different face, and it all needs to stop.

Also, a lot of people think that they should be allowed to wear what they want, whatever their religion.

its intresting to note to the person who quoted all the Quotes,

a lot of them are out right fabricated and are no where to be found in the religion of Islam. i read 1/4 of them and a lot of them are no where to be found in Quran or Hadith.
