She is alergic to something and she scratched her neck raw and its all bloody and full of puss. I called my pharmacist and got some antibotic ointment to put on it. That was helping but i've been watching her constantly so she doesn't scratch it and I went to get my clothes out of the dryer and when i came back she scratched the scab off of it. I am taking her to the vet tomorrow but I don't know how I can keep her from scratching it while I sleep. I dont have a cone to put on her head either. Any serious suggestions would help PLEASE. Shes my baby. I hate seeing her suffer.

I have put the ointment on and put a steril pad with medical tape around it. I tried the sock thing and she wond keep them on her feet. I gave her some benedryl a half hour ago, so hopefully she will sleep ok. THANK ALL OF YOU SO MUCH!!!

This may sound funny but, do you have cats? Some dogs are allergic to cats and some cats are allergic to dogs! Funny I know but true! Watch your dog next time she goes outside. Does she have a specific tree or bush she pees on? Does she rub on anything? These are all things she could be allergic to. There are shots that can be given to animals for allergies. Another thing it could possibly be is fleas. Most fleas are attracted to the neck and the butt because they are the hardest places for a dog to scratch. If this is the case your vet will tell you and prescribe something for it. Do not discontinue any medication you get even if it seems to be healing. VERY IMPORTANT.
Good luck with your baby.

Okay hon here is the best thing you can do for tonight. First calm down unless she is bleeding profusley she will be okay until morning. If you have a crate that you can keep her in near you tonight that would be great and you can also apply the ointment then lightly wrap the neck with a sterile gauze or and ace type bandage. Be careful not to wrap to tightly but not too loosley either. This should help until morning when you should take her to the vet first thing, it sounds as if the area is infected and needs much more than an ointment to help her. If the infection enters the bloodstream then you are going to have a whole mess of other problems so get her to the vet fiorst thing in the morning so that they may put her on some antibiotics and good luck!!!!!

You are right. A cone would be the best answer. How about using a place mat from the table? Or cut a box up. Or lots of newspaper. Or pin a thick towel around the neck after you have doctored and put a bandage on the wound. Or pin the towel from the waist back over the hind legs like a bunting so she cant get her feet to the sore.

You have to find out what is causing the allergic reaction - otherwise, she will just continue to scratch herself. Prohibiting her from scratching doesn't stop her from being very uncomfortable. Ask your vet to run an allergy test on her. It can be expensive, but obviously your dog is suffering and needs some relief from the discomfort. Once you run the test - you will know what's causing the problem and will be able to treat it right away. My dog has seasonal allergies and I went through the guessing game with my vet - trying several different things - before having the allergy test performed. I wish I'd done the test first - I could have saved a lot of money. Good luck with her! I hope you are able to figure it out - for her sake.

Do you have any medical tape lying around? If you do, try wrapping that around the wound. Make sure it is the breathable kind of tape....well, if you are taking her to the vet tomorrow, then I guess any other kind will do. Put the ointment on the wound, then wrap the bandage/medical tape around it.
Other than that...I think thats all you can do since you don't have a cone thing....
good luck. I hate seeing animals suffer. :o(

A cone is something you can make. If you want your dog not to scratch when you are sleeping, that is all you should do. An excuse of not having one will not do because it is something that can be remedied.
By the way, if you can also cut your dog's nails, that will also help and you may also put on socks on your dogs. Tape them on. :)

Chamomile tea works very well, and is safe for her. Dump it out of the teabag, and use 1 teaspoon for small breed, up to 1 tablespoon for a large breed. mix it in a little canned food, such as Mighty Dog, or Cesar's, and give about 30 minutes before she needs to relax. It will keep her happy, but reduce stress. She should relax and sleep.
If your grocer doesn't carry chamomlile, you can use 'Sleepy-time Tea' as it is the same, but with added herbs. Plain chamomile tastes better to a dog.

That cone thing is called and Elizabethean collar, they are awesome unless she can wiggle out of it. You can make one out of posterboard if you don't want to go to a pet store and buy one, but I would be willing to bet that the vet will use one anyway. I gave mine 25mg of benedryl, at least it is a little relief until you can get to the vet. Poor little pup!

Just do your best in making one yourself. But maybe you might want to use cardboard instead of paper? Hope it works. Try not to worry too much after all you're taking the dog to the vet tomorrow. Hopefully, they can give you one or tell you where you can find one. I hope it works! Now, try to get some sleep!

I am so sorry hon'. Try putting socks on her feet and holding her & petting her next to you until she falls asleep. Don't know if it will work, but it's my best guess. Hope all works out for your baby doggy.
