Oh, I was in this situation a while ago - boy did I feel it....I was really surprised by the way my body reacted!

It will be worse tomorrow, I'm sorry to say.

Like someone already suggested - a nice hot bath (not too hot) with some Radox or mineral salts

Nice hot bath with some Radox, always a good thing. Also deep heat or tiger balm on the really painful muscles, and you could take arnica, which is a homeopathic remedy for bruising which is very good for sore muscles (which are basically bruised). You can get arnica cream as well which is very good.

Homeopathic remedies tend to work very well, and they can also be used as a preventative. For eg, before I had my ACL surgery on my knee I took arnica for a week beforehand and the doctors were amazed at how little bruising I had after the surgery (no black bruising at all - went straight to yellow and faded in a couple of days). So, next time you know you are going to have to do a bunch of labouring, take some arnica for a couple of days beforehand and it'll be a big help.

Also, I know it hurts but stretch gently and keep moving - it will stop your muscles from seizing which can cause longer term problems if you begin to favour seized muscles.

Rest, or breathe deeply, because you have too much of a lactate acid buildup from the absence of oxygen in your muscle. Drink water especially after six hours of work.
Take a hot shower, not bath, standing up.
Keep your mind of the pain with something else like tv or even let your mind drift into space.
Works for me when work that long, hope it works for you.

Note: Over a while, the pain doesn't come back as bad if your work like that everyday. It's probably just the first day.

Soreness comes because of increased deposition of lactic acid in muscles after work out. To decrease pain decrease the intensity and duration of exercise and have a warm water bath. Before starting any workout stretch the all muscles and warm up and give a last 10 min cool down period to prevent soreness.

Hot shower and Advil! And move around more often you wouldn't be so sore if you stayed active daily, even if it means just a stroll around the block. I myself know the pain, my disability keeps me from being as mobile as well. If the pain and tension continue after a day or two call your doctor and maybe he can give you a muscle relaxer or something.. Personally i swear by Advil, take a couple (or 4) and a hot shower .. if your not to "manly" soak in a hot bath and just relax.. try not to over due yourself next time ..

Hot bath/shower and massage/ ointment.
Next time try take it easy.
Stretching the muscles will also help.
If i'm right you are going to feel the REAL pain tommorrow not the day after.
Stretching will ease this pain..do it after the bath/shower for the next 3 days and give me a call.

Anytime you do hard work using muscles that you have not used for a while, you should always take a hot bath as soon as possible afterwards. You will still hurt but not as much.

Take a warm bath with Epson salts in it, rub some deep heat into your muscles and rest.
