I am in the midst of putting together a family vacation in late july for my family of 5 (two adults and kids ages 18,15 and 4.) I want to do a cruise, but am unsure if I am getting a good price. The price I was quoted in $6,500 and it will include the following:
Five round trip tickets from Albuquerque to Houstan and a shuttle to Galveston,TX, a seven day/seven night cruise from Galveston to the western carribean with several port stops along the eastern coast of Mexico including Cozemel, ship accomodations are two estate cabins with balconies, all food and ship activities are included. The ship is a new "mega" ship shich is part of the Carnival line. The only things not included are alcohol and gambling. The agent I am working with to help me insists these prices are very reasonable. Is she right? Could I do better?

Sounds like a reasonable price including the airfare. I would recommend however getting a price for the exact same arrangements from another travel agency. Just make sure you are comparing the exact same category cabin(s). This would really ease your mind in determining whether or not you were REALLY getting a good price rather than relying on just our opinions :-)

Also some travel agents will add a shipboard credit or free wine etc. Always good to shop around.

That is a great price! It's a nice long cruise, two rooms, air, everything is included. You could get a lower price since you are wanting to go with Carnival, but I think you will be much happier sticking with one of the nicer ships.

With a cruise you can easily spend a $1,000 per day, for just the cruise. You are spending less than that and the air is included. Just don't think that the agent is trying to trick you into anything. Most agents are very honest and willing to work with you and help you. This is a very reasonable price.

This sounds like a reasonable price, especially with airfare and rooms with balconies. The rates usually are a little more during the summer. If you can go at off-peak times, it is cheaper. You will like this ship, and there will be plenty to keep the kids busy. The good shore excursions are expensive, and there are plenty of ways to spend money on the ship.
On my first cruise, I went through a travel agent. After that, I book directly with the cruise line. They will arrange your flight, transfers....everything....and the price is the same or even a little cheaper. Always ask what kind of discounts they give.

The price is not too bad. It all depends on when you are going. Friends of mine recently, I guess about 4 or 5 weeks ago went on a similar cruise. They timed it right I guess because about 10 or them went for less that $500.00 each!! I think it is a matter of timing. If a cruise is departing and the have empty cabins they will sell the tickets cheap to fill the ship. They do not want to sail with empty cabins. It is better for them to get something out of them rather that cruising with them empty.

I've done that cruise although left from Miami and on a smaller boat, I'd say look at the boat on-line, but it sounds like a good deal esp. w/ the flight included, have fun.
