There are many messages being presented and many referenced in the answers. So let me describe a simple example.

You are on a path. It started with birth and it will end in death. The fact that you are here means you have start. There are many roads to choice, and when you choose a road it will become part of your path, your journey. What is now before you is a lot of roads, and the next choice is yours.

You wish to find the true meaning of life, purpose on earth, and an understanding of what the world it. So what road is that? And how do you choose a road that finds them. Many roads, your choice.

Let's start with a simple road: Do I exist? Answer I think therefore I am. So thought provides an explanation of your path. Next road; Does God exist? Now we are stuck. Is there a proof that God exists? Remember not allow roads use God, the road to enlightenment is one of them.

Believe it or not, the roads that uses the bible, does not answer this question, it assumes it. But is this the right. Eventually, only the concept of belief will get unstuck and moving to your path.

So what do you believe, will help you choice a road. A road to truth? A road to meaning? A road to purpose? An understanding of how the world works. But what do you believe?

Now to separate roads, I would like to divide them into two types: Roads based on what God reveals (revelation) and roads based on what man observes (scientific method). What God reveals and what man observes does not always agree. For example, no matter what man observes, he cannot observe God (God is spirit).

I am sure that the God reveal roads will be discussed. All of the require belief. (Remember, what do you believe?) And they have all the answers to your questions, but to make those roads apart of your path, you must choice one, and to choice one you have to believe. [For example, the bible is not a conversation manual but the word of God as given to the prophets. To choice that road, you have to believe the assumption, God exists.]

Let talk about roads where man observes. You can not claim that there is no God, because you can not claim there is God. At best you can say you don't know. So lets talk about the meaning of life. What has man observed? There are many books however one cames to mind, Man Search for Meaning by Frankl. You can choose this road by reading the book. It means you have travel farther, but you will need more roads. Why are we here road? Science has documented its theories that starting at the small chemical compound, we will evolve to where we are? This is a theory explaining observed facts. It does not tell us anything except we are in a system that will produce man over time. So this roads answer why we are here (or better yet how we got here. The roads that answer what makes the world what it is consist of understand where we came from (history, geography), but never answers how we can make it better.

I presented a brief list of roads that you can use on your path. I have combined religious roads and worldly roads. Most of us use roads from both (revealed and observed). So there you have a sample of roads that you can choice, how you make that decision is up to you.

God is everything, everywhere, simultaneously. If this is true, then you must understand that that means that it isn't that "God can know anything", but that "God Knows Everything". Not potential, but actuality.
In the same way, talking about omnipotence rather than omniscience, it isn't that "God can do anything".
See where this is leading?
It is "God Does Everything".
That means not that some things are done by God, but that ALL things are done by God. Not only that, but all things that could be, actually are. Unicorns, magic, Zeus, Kwan-Yin, Puck, all exist; just probably not in this corner of existance in most of our experience.
That means that you MUST exist for EVERYTHING to exist. Sans you means God is not All-Powerful.

There is no meaning, not goal. We choose that. Oh, there are some really good ones. It is even possible to regain innocence, be truly happy, find true love (I have and have taught others), but there also have to be people who want to suffer, who want to be confused, who even when faced with a chance at enlightenment will toss it aside in hope of meeting an idealized teacher who never has and never will exist.
There's more. This isn't the place.
Good luck in your search. Don't settle, don't pay money for wisdom, don't hesitate to learn from fellow travellers, don't forget to share with those who really want to learn what you know so far.

Keep searching.

Not everything needs to have a why type of question or answer. Life, death, love, etc. more often than not have no particular reason aside from simple things: i.e., Q: why are we here? Ans: our parents had sex. Q: what makes the world what it is? Ans: Series of cause and effects, myseries of which are yet to be ascertained.

What is important, though, is what you intend to make of your life? What meaning would you like to assign to it? Love, wealth, health, family, service for others, etc. are some of common pursuits. After some introspection covering your life's needs while hiking in the woods, strolling on the beach, etc., you'll begin to find those answers for yourself.

You know the whole meaning of life i have discovered was mor simpler than anyone would have ever imganed.

1. Its not Success
2. its not being the best
3. Nor anything to do with anything pshysical

The meaning to life is

doing what you do every day but making sure that you affect every person that you come in contact with in the most influential way in which case you make thier lives more meaningful just by having met you. And in return the same happens to you!

Seriously, don't listen to anybody's answers to this question because its probably wrong, including mine. For what its worth, I think you shouldn't worry about why we're here, but rather take an introspective look at yourself and try to answer why you're here. What is it you have to offer the rest of the world? It can be simple, or it can be grand. The world is what it is. However, if you find your place in the world, you have done your part in making it what it is.

Confused yet?

The true meaning of life is the journey of discoverment towards the true meaning of life as it pertains to you and towards others. On the path to enlightenment we will have obstacles in our way like bad people, death, loss of some sort, etc. As we are are able to over come each obstacle we are enriched with knowledge that we share with others (this is why we are here at YA) to also help them on their journey. This is what makes our lives and what the world as it is today.

Now, I feel like the old man sitting at the top of the mountain with the long goatee =D

In Ecclesiastes, King Solomon, the wise man comes to the conclusion that all is vanity. He has tried everything to make himself happy. He has tried it all to fill the void that is in his life. He has tried women (300 wives and 700 concubines). He has tried money, fame & fortune, impressive buildings, expanding his kingdom, fine artwork etc. His conclusion is that everything here is temporal and thus perishes. Man lives less than 100 years and then he is gone. All his works and even his children and their children will one day be just a footnote in history and eventually forgotten. Everything is vanity, a useless endeavor because nothing lasts.

Then in chapter 12:13 he draws this conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

You see, only a God who is infinite himself could bring meaning to a otherwise meaningless existance, because what is done for God lasts for eternity. Only a life lived for God, doing his will and learning to love as he loves, has any lasting power in this world that we live in.

God loved us and sent his Son to die for us while we were yet sinners. In response, we love Him because He first loved us. the natural result of this love is a willingness and a capacity to keep his commandments. "If you love Me, keep My commandments" John 14:15

This explains why we are here and therefore the true meaning of life.

OK! I believe that we are here to live a morally clean life, help are fellow human beings and try to be as much like Jesus Christ as we possibly can, so that we can have a place in Heaven!

What makes the world what it is? That is a hard question! I would say it it a combination of human actions, planetary actions, and universal actions. When we abuse our environment, it reacts on a planetary scale and that action can and does have universal reactions.

The meaning of life in my understanding is to make this world heaven, to work with your fellow man to make a better place and keep progressing, to strive to make paradise. We are here on Earth right now as a fluke. I always thought of it as something that just happened we should get pass that and look to the future and what it holds with us.

We were created by God in His image and our purpose here on earth is to love and honor Him in everything we do and say. He loves us so much that he sent Jesus to set an example of how to live and then to die on the cross, taking all our sin upon Himself. He told us to love God with our whole heart and our neighbors as ourselves. If we accept the Lord and follow Him we will share eternity in the presence of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit! The purpose of life is never about us. It's all about Him!
