Im not religious, but my background is Christianity. On numerous occassions I have prayed for things that ultimately were not in my best interest. For example, one of my biggest desires was to go to NYU in 2001. Had I gotten accepted to NYU in 2001, I would have been in all that 9-11 drama. Imagine the trauma. Thats just one of many things. I wonder if I'm the only one..
Please dont bore me with religious bantor. I am looking for people with sincere answers who arent religious extremist. Thanks.

I think it is perefectly acceptible to ask God to grant our hopes and desires. Though I dont think (s)he's a genie or anything. Ultimately I believe God sets up with whatever is best, for whatever is planned for us, whether we realize it or not. Sometimes I think God likes to tease me. Because he answers my prayers in ways that torture me at first but delight me afterwards. Like how I didnt pass my last exam to graduate college, yet I was given another opportunity to take it. I knew I was going to have a hard time passing it so I prayed for God to give me a victory. And I lost, only to battle again. The irony.

Yes, it has happened to me and this is why I even have embodied it in my prayers. I say "God protect me from my ignorant and dangerous requests". Even the scriptures say that "we don't know how to pray as we ought" (Romans 8:26).

No, I've prayed to God about a boyfriend really bad before. Only he was a total @$$, was my brother's age, took advantage of me when I was young. Totally better off without that. Didn't stay with him but it did happen and it sucked.
Ever heard that song, "Unanswered Prayers" by Garth Brooks?? If you haven't you should find it, at least the lyrics (but the song is greatness too). It's exactly what you're talking about and aint it the truth, lol.

For nearly 10 years I prayed that God would take away my homosexuality. He never did.
In less than two weeks I will celebrate my 16 year anniversary with my boyfriend.
If God had answered that prayer, I might be a miserable and lonely straight person.
Thank God He knows better than we do what we really NEED.

I pray everyday and had many answered and some not.
One I begged for never got answered but later on discovered it was a lesson for me. I suppose it did get answered in a way but I had to make it happen by making sacrifices. Some sacrifices are heartbreaking but without it I would have (or could have if taken more chances than I already had) lost much more than I did in the sacrifice.
Our prayers aren't always to be answered by god, but they are to be answered by US by making neccessary changes

I used to ask God for a good man to love and spend my life with. He sent me my first husband and it was great for 11 1/2 years. Until he met someone else and left 2 years later. My first husband made me realize what I DIDN'T want in a man and what I DID want.
Then he sent me my second husband. He is the most wonderful man I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I love this man completely and I thank God everyday for sending him to me.

when i was 19, my husband used to pressure me to have a child, i prayed to god for a child, I got pregnant a month later but then I had a miscarriage, my marriage fell apart and now i have been separated from my husband for 2 years now, Looking back at it, it was a good thing I didn't have the child, at least I don't have to worry about raising a child on my own at the this moment and I only focus on myself and my career

Well, I can't think of anything specifically.
Not all of my prayers have been answered the way I want, sometimes the answer is "no".
And I think there is always a reason for that.

I have prayed for many of the answer's for guidance in my life... and I've realized I'm often better off not knowing! We don't always have to be sure we're on the 'exactly right' path....

I prayed for a daughter all those years ago... got 3 beautiful sons instead... I have never loved them any less. They are the most wonderful reasons for my waking up each day.
