small truth: Business-made software will never be as secure as OpenSource software.
Small Truth: Mac doesn't have alot of viruses because their aren't enough macs on the internet, sure they more secure(which is awesome) but don't go bragging about it unless you know that fact.
No.. The problem with Microsoft is they don't like to fix all their problems in one fell swoop.. rather they like make things alittle bit better each time, sorta like a fat person working out at a gym. they get alittle skinnier each time.
Fixing IE and adding a two way firewall will go along way in helping though. While i don't think IE will still be as good as Firefox or Opera fixing the main security flaws will make everyone's life easier. A two-way firewall will also help protect against trojans, even though the beta i looked at was kinda a resource drain.
If windows want's to batton down the hatches their going to have to do several things.
*fix the Memory management and restore feature
Big security flaw, and just a damned nuissance. Viruses can install anywhere they like, and since windows doesn't have a UNIX core to protect itself like this is critical. The restore feature is one of the main reasons virus-removing is so hard. Also fixing the memory storage problem would remove alot of the errors windows faces and give it a long install-life.
*Fix Active-X controls and do something about the way IE installs things
Why is firefox more secure? because it doesn't use active X and doesn't wattonly install things(like spyware) whenever it wants.
*improve on the Firewall!
The firewall is a great thing to come to Windows, atleast it will be once it's built better. Give the firewall the ability to cloak the IP, to lock the internet and set a password and it'll be alittle bit better.make it three layers and add some sort of feature like WinPatrol, that minitors and firewalls programs indiviually and has an IDS(intrusion detection system) and you'll have a real security system in the works
while more could be done i think that these three things would really help.
But a simplified answer to your question- no. We may want it, but a thirsty man in hell wants icewater, doesn't mean he gets it.

The answer is probably not. The problem is that some people have nothing better to do than fiddle with windows until they find a weakness. To some it is a badge proudly worn to say that they were able to foul up a microsoft product. No matter what they come up with you can be sure that there are people working day and night trying to find a hole to exploit.

It ain't gonna solve the hole it's gonna leave in my pocket. I do believe a lot of work is going into the next release though but they're just too greedy. I might go Red Hat next time.

not yet. the latest I read was that there are several things that are still being fixed along with IE7. you can read all about this by going to the micro soft web. I have read it is pretty easy to install and it takes under 30 minutes

There will never be a release that dosen't have any backdoors to it. Well, OS X might, but there is like one or two viruses for it if i am right.
