A valid driver's license is needed for traveling. It all depends where you want to stay.
If you are looking for great night life and a wonderful beach, I recommend staying in the Isla Verde area just 5 minutes away from the Airport and about 10 minutes away from Old San Juan. This area is about 35 - 40 minutes away from El Yunque Rain forest. Isla Verde Ave. is actually a a great place to stay with lots of hotels, bars, clubs and restaurants. One of the most famous night club is Brava, what use to be Club Babylon located in the El San Juan hotel and Casino. Open from Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
If you are looking for a more lay back hotel, there is the El Conquistador hotel and that's 45 min. depending on traffic. Its mainly located on a 500 acres of land on a cliff and since it does not have direct beach access it has a private beach called Palomino Island located 5 mins off the coast of PR, and they provide all the transportation to and from the beach and to and from the airport for $66 per person round trip.
Weather wise, Hurricane season just started until the end of November 30th but peak season here is late Aug. and the whole month in Sept. Low season rates are Aug. and Sept. If you do book a reservation and there is a Hurricane threat, most of the hotels allow cancelations without penalty. And we use american dollars.

Puerto Rico is colony of the U.S. so you need no passport if you're traveling from the US, the average weather is 75 degrees year long and there is no exchange rate since the US dollar is the national currency. Have fun!!! I lived there for several years and there's always alot of cool and interesting stuff going on.

Puerto Rico is a US Commonwealth. US citizens do not require passports or visas to travel there. A simple government issued photo ID, like a driver's license will suffice.
Puerto Rico's currency is the US Dollar. Todays exchange rate is $1.00 = $1.00.

Currently you do not. Puerto Rico is a Latin American nation with a Commonwealth status with the US since 1952. This status is not permanent and self determination is recognized.
The dollar is the currency of PR.

properly i'm an american citizen, yet my husband isn't. We went to Puerto Rico and when we were coming again, between the protection guards talked about that my husband's identity replaced into non everlasting (it replaced into no longer expired) and requested for my husband's passport. I requested why, because that they are putting forward you do not desire passport and he stated that we must have it in any case because his identity replaced into non everlasting. properly he allow us to bypass, yet what if he wanted to grant us worry? The week after one of his friends went to PR and had no situation in any respect, so it relies upon who do you locate once you're there. i'd take my passport.

Puerto Rico is a commonwealth of the United States, so probably no passport required, but you should check with the airline when you get your ticket.
