Some churches believe that any form of gambling is a sin. Some teach that excessive gambling is a sin. In poker, if you know the odds, you know it's not so much gambling as calculation. I personally don't think it's a sin as long as you only use money that you can spare, keep your bills paid, and your family's needs met. I paid for a lot of my meals with a few lessons at the table. Optimists are such good losers.

Poker and other gambling are sins according to the Koran.

Poker skill is a virtue according to my urban coyote philosophy, though.

It depends... does it keep you from going to church? Does it cause your kids to go to bed hungry? Did you bounce 3 checks because you gamble too much? If so, then it may be sinful for you. But if you enjoy it and you do not hurt anyone by doing it, then I find it hard to believe that it is a sin.

No. It's just a game.

Of course, if you gamble too much and lose everything, that's not good.

But then again, if you drive too fast and die that's not good either. Does that make driving a sin???

I think not.

if you get addicted i guess, but if you don't actually bet something, for example playing simply for fun i think it's alright.. i picture sins as something that will turn around and "bite" the hand of the sinner in most situations, you can use that a mild guideline i guess.
