You can't "stop" AIDS. The only thing you can do is to try and prevent yourself from getting the virus. Always were a condom, and if you are a girl, insist the guy weres a condom.

Also if you have another STD the chances are greater for you to get HIV.

If you mean preventing an HIV infection from becoming AIDS, the best therapy is called HAART, for highly active antiretroviral therapy. It's a combination of three drugs such as AZT, 3TC and Sustiva which cause the virus to make broken DNA chains (thereby preventing the virus's reproduction). The reason three drugs are used is because the virus mutates very fast (rendering single drugs inneffective) but the combination of three blocks reproduction even with mutations.

Once you are HIV+, There is no way to stop AIDS. You will eventually develope it. As for not getting infected by the HIV virus, the only safe method is to use condoms, "ALWAYS"especially if you don't know your partner to well. Once you are HIV+, there are meds but they have all sorts of awful side effects from these pills.

The best prevention is abstenance from all risky behaviours such as sex, needle use etc.

However as I doubt you want to abstain from sex, your best method would be to ALWAYS use a condom before any penetration takes place. Having your partner undergo HIV tests prior to contact would also assist, but not much help if they become infected after the test is taken.

Find a cure. They believe they've isolated the gene that mutated. It controls reproduction of the virus if I remember right. That's why it is deadly in humans, it reproduces sufficiently to overwelm the bodies auto-immune system. Apparently, in the siv type, it's reproduction rate is low enough for a simians (ape) auto-immune system to safely keep it in check.
