Put a flyer on bulletin boards at grocery stores, preschools and city buildings. Place flyers on all your neighbors doors. You can also advertise at www.craigslist.org.

Most food stores, some bookstores, and local libraries have local community boards where you can post flyers. You can do the "fringe thing" where you write your number at the top of the flyer and cut about 2" x 1/2" strips (w/number on each) so people can pull it off and take it with them.
You can also post a listing on Craig's list or check if your local paper has freebie ads of this sort.
Also, ask parents, friends, etc to post flyers at work if that's an option.

You can put up small ads on church bulletin boards, grocery stores. small area shops, etc. If they are interested, have them leave their phone # on the bulletin boards. This way you don't have to expose your phone # or address. Also, if you're on good terms with your parents, ask their friends for some references. You'd be surprised how many adults know reliable baby sitters. Good luck. I've been there. Also, if you work,as some of your co-workers who they use or if they have children old enough to babysit. This way you might be able to tell if they are reliable. You should consider the age of your child also. If it's an infant, I'd be really picky, because many baby sitter (teens, etc) don't know how to take care of an infant.

I would use an 8.5" x 11" paper to make your advertisement on the top 8" of it and use the lower 3" for "tear-off" tags with your phone number or e-mail on them. You can hang them up in your post office and supermarkets, and bookstores. You must ask the managers if you are allowed to do so.

Put up a flyer with tear-off strips in your grocery stores, church, and other area businesses with a bulletin board. Also, make a flyer and distribute it to people in your neighborhood who have children.

Make some flyers and put them up in your neighborhood. You could put them in your neighbors mailboxes, and ask some of the store owners in the neighborhood if you could post some of your flyers there.
