I have a scanner antenna on top of my house. ( It is a magnet mount and I have a chimney cap) I have several limbs that are within a couple of feet or so of the antenna above and around it. How much do you think that this is affecting my receptiton of stations that have repeaters app. 30 miles away and further. I have a friend that is supposed to remove the limbs as best he can when he gets a chance, but I was wondering how much better reception I should have after this compared to now. By the way, the antenna was put there last week, but he had no way of removing the limbs at that time.

Thanks

Since most everything you are going to pick up on a scanner is high frequency FM, the trees are little or no problem. You are vertically polarized anyhow. You would do better if you had that mag mount sitting on about a square foot (could be a circle) of metal to act as a ground plane.

Often times the ant you have might be affected by the freq u are using are they in the 800 meg range. the freq in that range is touchy
all so how good is the lead in you have. Do you have a long run.?. Also weather has a lot of what you hear and not hear. On your scanner. along with the fact that some times things stay very quite.
Does the branches touch your ant that will do. Is the cap made of Yes it might
