my mom went on a trip about 7 months ago and a day after she left her cat that shes had for 11 years wouldnt eat and was acting strange, we figured it was because she was gone. But shes been back for 6 and a half months and he has lost a lot of weight and he still barely eats. What is wrong with him?

He's getting old. Take him to the vet. They also sometimes lose their appetite when their owners are away, but by the sounds of it, that's not the case. Check for 'Bilary' (not correct spelling!) in other words, TIck Bite Fever. The first symptoms is loss of appetite and lack of activity. I sincerely hope your Kitty is OK! They're so precious!

Sounds like kitty is sick with either Diabetes of Kidney disease. Take him to the vet ASAP to know for sure. Usually by the time a cat show symptoms of kidney disease they have lost about 75% of their kidney function and there is not much they can do about it. But you will never know if you don't get him to the vet STAT.
If there is nothing that can be done then the vet will guide you in the right direction on what to do next. Something similar happened to my 14 year old kitty. He was in renal failure. Nothing could be done. I felt totally responsible and will never forgive myself for not getting him in sooner. Now all my cats are tested routinely with a new kind of blood test that can detect kidney disease in the early stages when it can be controlled and progression of it halted. Good luck with your mom's cat. I wish you the best.

Yes, her cat is sick and needs to go to the vet. Cats do not act like this unless they are sick so make an appointment as soon as possible. Hopefully, it is something small that the doctor can take care of and your cat will be fine.

The best thing to do is to take him to the vets office and get him checked out. And if there is something really wrong with him you should have him put down because he is old hunny. Most cats only live up to 9 years so he is considered REALLY old. If you do have to get him put down just get a kitten and just wish for eleven more years with that kitten.

well when my cat did this the next day he died. But that was my cat. The best way to help the cat is to take him/her to a vet to have him checked out

I strongly urge you to take your cat to the vet asap as he will continue to go down hill and deteriate until it's too late. Please don't ignore his health and let him continue to suffer.
