It seems like going against the will of God like that would be some sort of sin.

My bad... I forgot that most Christians don't read the Bible, they only know what people tell them about it...
Matthew 10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Matthew 19:29 And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.
Luke 14:26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
I'm sorry... was I being called stupid? Did somebody say that I don't know what I'm talking about?
Hello? Jesus is the one who said this stuff, not me. I got it directly from the King James Version.
It's not my fault you know know what's in the Bible.

Pesky Wabbit: I'm a preacher's kid who has spent his entire life reading and studying the Bible. I was raised in a "traditional family" by Christian parents, went to Bible College, graduated with honors, and could obtain a minister's license if I chose to do so.
I submit you are terribly wrong, but thank you for your ill-informed opinion. It really helps make my point here.

Canuck: Nope... he said if you didn't hate your mother, father, sister, brother and wife, you couldn't be his disciple...
that sounds pretty destructive. He used the word HATE.

That He did say those things is true, and that He practiced them is likewise true, but what is your point? Is it to denigrate Him, or His followers? That the Church has failed to follow His teachings has been plainly demonstrated by history, as well as by the current crop of Christendom. So I take it you have issues with Him. I suggest you take those issues up with Him personally and quit trying to make us look bad; we are doing a pretty good job of that all by ourselves.
Haven’t you figured out by now that people are happy with their ‘religion’, as long as it doesn’t cost them much or actually involve obeying Jesus’ commands? Thus He said in Luke 6:46 ‘Why do you call me Lord, Lord and do not the things I say unto you.’
Shhhh, please don’t disturb the sleeping babes. Let them sleep, content in their religion, family values, covetous possessions, patriotism, worldly ethics and apple pie. The blast of the Trumpet should wake them from their slumber. Too late to prepare for the groom, but time to enjoy the fruit of their labors under the reign of the anti-Christ.

Why do they think that homosexuality is a terrible sin when in that same section they say touching a pig's skin is a terrible sin? Check that stuff out sometime.
Jews were like that too. The jewish religion was so open and loving at first becasue some guy was open and loving and said that other people should be that way too. So along with being open and loving they prayed the same time of day he did, ate what he did, basically lived after his life. Over time, it became exclusive and extrme for the few who are orthadox.
Orthadox Christians are the same way because Jesus told everyone to follow him. So everyone did. To the friggin word. At first it was about reforms, but after a while they get outdated. What was accepting then is totally diffrent than today, but instead of following the fact that Jesus hung out with the low lifes and loved EVERYONE, they say that Jesus didnt believe certian things that dont even apply to today's world. How can you tell what Jesus thought about abortion when that wasnt exactly an issue then?
Orthadox Christians just try to keep things exactly the same way as it is in the bible without thinking that their religion is about changing for the times and accepting EVERYONE, along with their views on traditions.

He does not destroy a traditional family. But at that time Jews do not believe that He is the Messiah. Thus, who believes in Him had to go against not only their society, but also family. I think it is also something to do with a bad translation. BTW, if you read the whole bible, you know that Jesus does not destroy people. He saves lots of them.
1 Timothy 3:4
He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him with proper respect.
1 Timothy 3:5
(If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God's church?)
1 Timothy 5:4
But if a widow has children or grandchildren, these should learn first of all to put their religion into practice by caring for their own family and so repaying their parents and grandparents, for this is pleasing to God.
1 Timothy 5:8
If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

Jesus said 'let the children come to me" he also mentioned the consequences if anyone does not. A lot of people who claim they are Christians may not be labled "extreme" simply because they are not doing what Christ commanded Christians to do. Just believing isn't good enough, according to Jesus, Christians must live their life as instructed.
I am not aware of any reference of Jesus coming into the world to destroy traditional family values
Perhaps you are referring to what He said about that He came into the world to divide - brother against brother and parents .etc. I think what He was talking about is that He is superseding all other traditional religions and that there will be arguments as a result of His teachings. For example; sin is forgiven in His Name. Demons are exorcised in His name. Miracles happen in His name. We live a life after death in His name.
There are so many things of how people were instructed on how to live their lives that compelled the chief priests to conspire to kill Him, and according to the prophesies - that was all a part of the plan.

First of all---the word "traditional" is very deceiving. The traditional family values in Christ's day were much more strict than anything any of the rest of American children have had to undergo. Discipline, Honor, Integrity, Maturity, Responsibility, and Religious Education were dominating forces in the home during Christ's lifetime. Unfortunately, we have minimal discipline; honor is almost non-existent---as evidenced by the lack of understanding of "Christ" in your question--Integrity in most homes ends at the parents spending less than three hours a day with their children because daycare and schools are required to replace parents.
Relgious education, maturity, and responsibility are whispers in a misty cloud in our "traditional" homes, so those "family values" are being bartered at the market place---malls, video arcades, electronics stores, and computer screens.
Now, to be more specific in my answer, the Bible states--emphatically, distinctly, and without question in the Gospel of John, Chapter 3, verse 17: "Jesus came into the world not to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved."
Therefore, your assumption of Christ's destruction of the family, with or without the misnomer of the word "traditional, is incorrect at best----and destructive at least.
I suggest you live in a home where all of the disciplines I previously listed are absent; I suggest that you are a child that has, virtually and physically, had to raise himself, and I am sorry for that. I pray that you can raise yourself for just a little longer and get yourself to a youth group, befriend someone who can have you to his home, and where you can see that putting Christ first in the home is what makes a family "traditional."
God Bless You.

Preach On! Down with the extremist christians. You would think a religion started by a man who was born from a cheating mom who actually got away with "Oh, it was god who knocked me up" instead of admitting she was giving up the booty on the side, would be more accepting of all lifestyles.
I don't worship Jesus or God. I worship Mary. She is my hero by holding to her lie so strongly that NO ONE ever found out she cheated. I feel bad for the other guy that knocked her up and never got credit for his seed creating the "Son Of God"

somehow you are confused. Slow down and elaborate better. Jesus didn't come to destroy family values. He came to destroy the works of the devil..
1John 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

Ah, what's traditional, then? So if Jesus established a way of life as right, you think he'd want that destroyed? But it IS traditional, right?
