its because hot dog buns were originally packaged and marketed to work with sausages, not hot dogs.

I saw this in another answer. It is to make you, the consumer purchase more hot dogs so that when you buy 8 10 packs of buns which come out to 80, you will have to purchase even more hot dogs, in this case, 10 packs. The bottom line is for you to spend more to get the exact amount of hot dogs and buns.

Huh? I get my buns in 12's and my dogs in bulk....as many as I want. Maybe the hot dogs come in 10s in case you drop one in the fire or on the ground.!?

because you are buying the wrong brand of hotdogs. some brands come in 8 some in 10 find a brand that comes in 8 and life will ummm. yeah.
