Well, I would do what you're doing to save the files. Then, on your computer, hold the button you use to turn the computer on until it shuts off.

The first 2 answers are right. Restore, Reinstall or you have to do the "5 second hold" no other answers should be accepted

do a restore from a time it shut down...or save all datafiles, reformat and reinstall windows xp

You have to enable APM , for this go to control pannel, go to PWER option and enable APM.
