If after one alcoholic drink whether it is beer or wine or liquor, your face and skin become flushed and you feel hot, then the most likely explanation is that you suffer from the misnamed "Asian Flush" and lack a particular enzyme called ALDH2 (aldehyde dehydrogenase isoenzyme) that helps turn alcohol into sugar in people's blood stream.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcohol_flush_reaction
Although modern medicine has nicknamed this condition Asian Flush because as much as 50% of Asian males may lack this enzyme, the condition is not confined to Asia. Many populations from Native Americans to ancient Celts may have been lacking this enzyme which accounts for the devastating effects of alcohol on these populations.
Although there are now some products that claim to be able to counteract the lack of ADH2 ( http://www.cheerzhangover.com/about-cheerz.htm ) the best solution is not to drink alcohol.

RE:
When I drink alchohl I get blotchy red patches on my face and neck and I feel really hot. Any clue what it is?
So when I drink beer or wine or hard alcohol I've noticed that sometimes I will get very hot, like my face and neck. And then very red blotches will form on my neck, shoulders, and face. Is this an allergic reaction? Any ideas?

This is definately a allergic reaction. The more you expose yourself to the ingredient that you are allergic to, the more severe the response could be. In the event that you develope difficulty breathing or any other respirtory compramise, 911 is definately a necessity. Although for mild cases like yourself 50mg's of Benedryl (2 tablets of OTC benedryl) will treat the hives and any discomfort. I doubt this has anything to do with blood pressure, based on your family history and present history. A 10 minute phone call to your PMD will definately settle the issue.

You are probably allergic to the histamines in the wine and the preservatives? I find if I drink red wine, my nose blocks up and I go red in the face. I know that red wine has a lot of histamines in it. Doesn't happen with white wine. My philosophy is, I love it so I put up with it....heheheheh. Poppet

From my younger days this would happen to me after I had been on a drinking binge for a couple of days. My doctor told me it was dehyrdration and depletion of B vitamins because of the alchohol consumption. Drinking plenty of gatorade in the morning before drinking alchohol too care of this.

a steroid cream would really help but depending on where ur living u might need a prescription. it clears my red skin ) only use a little at a time and just where needed. also try mineral makeup if ur skin is flakey from the benzoyl, it really hides it. hope this helps. x

Your allergic to something in the drink. Try switching what you're drinking.

Possibly an allergy. Get it check if it persists. Happens to one of my friends. She had it checked out and she's fine. We just call it her "splotches" and it serves as an indication that she is drunk! Haha.
