Currently when I get off work and come home from work at 1pm I have my two kids plus babysitting my baby nephew 3 days a week until 9pm. My sister in law (nephew's mom) has been looking for a new job and more than likely it will have different hours than her current one. The job she got interviewed for today and may get is an 8 to 5er' and she would need me all 5 weekdays instead of just three. The upside would be that I would only have to watch him from 1:30pm to 5:30 pm but it would be 5 days a week. Or the other choice is if she keeps the job she has and continue watching him 3 days a week from 1:30 to 9pm. Which sounds better? I don't particularly care for the 5 day a week thing because they don't want me taking him out of my house (the germy world outside ha!) which means no going shopping for groceries and/or running errands while he is in my care. At least with the 3 day a week situation I have a couple days to be with my own and take care of things around my house.

If the 3 day a week is more convenient for you, tell her. Otherwise, if she gets the job that requires you to mind your nephew 5 days a week, you will have to lay down the law and tell her that you need to do your household shopping. Also tell her that kids can't get germ immunity without being in contact with germs. If she doesn't like it she will have to find a sitter that is also a germaphobe. I used to be a fanatical germaphobe with my son until I caught him chewing on my sisters cat's tail when he was about 7 months old (funnily enough the cat just sat and watched him). Then I realised that a cat's tail is about the yuckiest thing I could think of him putting into his mouth, he didn't get violently ill from it, and so I learnt to let it go...

I think that the way you are running things now is better. Specially if they won't let you take the baby out. Not even to the park??

I babysit a couple of days a week and I'm soo lucky that I get to take the child wherever I want! Now during summertime, we usually go to my sister's house and she's got a pool. Of course, I always take very good care of her and take precautions to make sure she's safe. And I specially love the fact that her parents trust me so much.

I would say whichever way you are more comfortable with. However from personal experience, you need to tell them that you need to have the ability to leave the house, so if it is the 5 days a week thing, you have to be able to go shopping, go to the park, run to teh bank and what not without them freaking. If they can't handle that, then maybe the current situation is better.

i would let the mother know if you are going to watch her child 5 days a week that your life does not stop because of him and that you need to do your errands and stuff and that if you are to watch him he will be going with and he will be treated just like the other children (including park time and other things your children like to do) you have at home and no different and if she does not like it she can get day care for the other 2 or 3 days you need to do your thing.
if a child does not get dirty they will get sick so let them go out and play in a big mud puddle and dirt and sand! he may enjoy himself.

Tell them that you can't be confined to your house 5 days a week. Tell them it's already too difficult the way it is.
If they won't allow you the freedom don't take the job.
Don't be a slave for your relatives.
