If a child has proved beyond all doubts that they can handle the responsibility of a cell phone then I don't see why they can't have one.
A cell phone is a good leverage stick to use on a child to keep them in line so they don't get all carried away thinking they can loose it if they mess up.

No, a ten year old kid SHOULD NOT have cell phone at the age of 10? Why in world should they have a cell phone @ that age?! It's too young, what are they gonna do w/it, lose it? talk about the all new Rugrats episode? That's ridiculous! A good age would be 14/15 when the kid is about to go to high school and may actually need one for extracurricular activities, or going out with friends alone to the mall, movies, etc.

absoulutely not. the only reason for a cell phone is for those that are leaving the house. At 10 I think there should be an adult present or an older person responsible like an older sibling. There should be no need for them to be alone to need a cellphone. The only way one should be done is if cell phones are the only phones available in the household then alot of times it is done with a family plan. And the cell is there for the babysitters convience.

The only cell phone I would give a 10 year old would be the one where they could only call their parent or guardian if they were in trouble. Other than that no. Children are growing up way to fast these days.

It may be a little young but it also depends on that ten year old. How active in sports are they? If my child was being dropped off for practice of some sort I wouldn't mind letting them have a cell phone for emergencies. They make phones now through cingular that are designed for kids...they only have 4 buttons (4 phone numbers that are stored by parents). It all depends on the situation.....

My kids (age 4, 6, 7) and step kids (age 5, 8) live in the ghetto and ride there bikes around town a lot. all five have cell phones so in case they go out of the ghetto (everybody in the ghetto are my kids friends and are cool with them) and somebody tries taking them they can call home.

My brother is 12 and has one. He golfs so he kind of needs one.
I think a 10 year old should have one if:
-parents are overprotective
-the after school activity of the child is inconsistent and the kid needs to get ahold of their parents
-if they live in the city where anything can happen
-if it is their birthday coming up and only want a cell phone

My kids are 7 & 8........both have one of the phones that everyone is talking about....where you program the 4 numbers into them....both of kids are in swim classes, boy/girl scouts, gymnastics, baseball, cheerleading, football...dance & Karate...alot of times...I cant be in 2 places at once...so I got them the phones if practice lets out early or something like that....plus....both kids have friends in the neighborhood that they hang out with almost on a daily basis....my son's friend is across the street....My Daughter's is 3 houses down...they call me when they are ready to come home..so I can either go get them...or be in the front yard watching them......ALSO....they are at a sitter's house when I am working....so this helps if they NEED to call me...they can do so at anytime....I feel ALOT safer knowing the kids have these phones....I dont consider them actual cell phones though....they are a lifeline when I cant be there 24/7...

They have them cell phones now that u can program like 4 numbers in to them. they can not make any other calls but to them 4 numbers and 911 of course. that is the only cell phone kids should have. it is nice to check up on ur kid while they are out but letting them have free run of the phone lines in another. go to Ur local cell phone place and check out the phones for kids. that way you can keep in touch with them and they can call family in case of a emergency.

10-15 is a lot to important of an age team. you're conversing approximately effortless to intense college. i think of that this age team ought to have a telephone. an prolonged time 10-12 choose uncomplicated telephones with like 200 texts a month and a couple of minutes. after that they are going to be attracted to texting and by making use of 15 you will desire a cell telephone.

Not really...unless the child is in an after school activity and the cell phone is one of those ones that just has the parent contact number preprogrammed in it and the kid can't make/receive any other calls but that on it.
