Garnier is nice because it smells good, other than that, it does nothing to condition your hair! If your hair is so dry that it breaks, chances are, you need more trimmed off than you thought. Unless you cut off the dead hair, your hair will always look dead on the ends. Frequent trims, even if it's a 1/4 of an inch every six weeks, will help. Spend the money on a great conditioner, who cares about the shampoo, just make sure it's gentle. Spend some extra cash on a really great conditioner, and some great styling products that protect against heat, and you'll be on your way to long, healthy hair! Not everyone can afford sulfate free products, they are hard to come by. Pre-emptive haircare is the most important thing! Trim your hair, then protect it from heat from blowdrying, curling irons and flat irons..

If it's too dry stop using the Garnier shampoo and instead find a shampoo without sulfates in it (sulfates are the detergents used in most shampoos, and they're really hard on your hair). Trader Joe's brand shampoo and Burt's Bees shampoo are both excellent sulfate-free shampoos. You should also not do things that put too much stress on your hair, such as brushing it when it's wet, blow-drying it, or using other styling tools that are hot (straightening irons, etc.). Your best bet is to air-dry your hair, go for sulfate-free shampoo, and find a good soy-based conditioner. You also should get regular trims, even if you're growing out your hair, to take care of split ends before they cause breakage.

go to a beauty salon and ask what you should be using on your hair. If you are on any kind of medication it can cause your hair to break. Just as a heads up!. The salon will be able to help you.

Get a good hydrating system at a salon. It is more expensive, but you dont' use as much. Look for items without Steryl Laureth Sulfate, they will know what you are talking about.

Take multivitamins, specially one that has selenium in it. It is important to nourish your hair from inside as well.
Oh, and I had a friend once swear by almond oil, that applying it regularly to her hair made it grow, when it never did before.
