Why not? If that's what you come to believe, isn't it better to not believe and be real than to try to believe and be fake? You only get one life... live it being true to yourself, no matter what that means believing or not believing.

Keep asking your questions until you are satisfied with the answers. And, no... there's no proof for a God, and you cannot disprove God either. Your truth has to be just that - yours.

See the link. I asked a Q that might help you.

At the bottom of the second link, there are links to other "labels" of religious worldviews such as deism, agnosticism, atheism, etc etc etc.

Take it slow. Don't be too concerned with what you are going to end up believing. Be more concerned with travelling your journey by looking for the truth.

You can't see oxygen or air, but you must believe in it cuz you're breathing it, right? Hey, I was an atheist for 49 years. Then the day came when I couldn't stand living like that, so I asked the God I'd been denying existed to help me. He was there waiting. Now, I've been clean (recovering meth addict) for 2 1/2 years. No longer with a guy who degrades me and beats me up, no longer homeless, no longer jobless, no longer lifeless. Finally alive and free, ALL because I came to believe in a Power greater than myself. No more SPIRALING! Give it a try. Doesn't have to be the GOD you've probably had shoved down your throat off and on as you were growing up, just a God of your understanding. With Him, all things are possible. And life is wonderful. Give it a try!. As soon as you start to truly believe, you see the little signs (proof if you will) all around you, all the time. Good luck. God Bless.

A great psychoanalysis who held 2 PhDs once told me that when someone says "really" in such a context as above "I really...", they are actually tending to mean not really.

So either way you are fooling yourself.

But understand this: understanding is the spectrum between knowledge and experience.

What ever direction you go, seek certainty. Question your value system, write down what you think to be basic principles which must be true. But note sometimes the way a dichotomy is looked at or formed as a question will make or break the key to the path to truth.

Good luck, and may God be with you.

On proof: types 1) creation 2) knowledge of God is written in our hearts so that we are without excuse 3) Jesus proved God exists 4) Judgement Day shall prove God exists to everyone.

There is no proof. Faith is a choice to believe in totally unproven things.

Now note, while there is some reason to think there may be a deity -- the idea of biblegod is laughable. The bible is simply full of errors that prove nothing in it can be trusted. The fact that a book many Christians say is "truth" is actually mythic, does not however disprove the idea of God, nor the idea even of Christ.

Just some thoughts.

PS "Evidence that Demands a Verdict" was a joke when it was written, "New Evidence" is no less a one. Have you bothered to read any of the refutations?

Sorry, but we can only go on theories, faith, and conjecture. On the other hand, it's quite possble that both atheist and believers both have it wrong. Science itself may offer certain explanations, for example; our bodies are animated by a spirit-ghost-concience-soul- lifeforce which is basically a type of energy, perhaps even electrically charged. If this is so, then at the time of death, our lifeforce energy does not die, since the Law of Matter and Energy clearly states that "energy can neither be created nor destroyed, only transformed". Transformed? Into what? Who knows. But can this be so far fetched? Can this even be a basis for other phenomena such as reincarnation, past lives, teleportation, astral projection, energy transference, etc.? I don't know, I want to find out as much as you do, but I will still be understanding, openminded, and willing. We only live one time, or do we?

I don't know about proof. Jesus pointed out that people that demand proofs are likely to be evil ("A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign") I hope that's not the case with you.

I'm more interested in wondering why you would be attracted to a belief that says that you came about as a result of randomness, that there is not, never was and never will be any reason or purpose for your existence (other than what you yourself might imagine after staring at yourself in a mirror for too long.)

Meaning, or no meaning...? Hope or no hope...? Suppose you had created everything. What would your reaction be to those who gave up too easily...?

just to clear something. a person does not need religion, really, because sometimes, religion only manipulates you: but one needs God. maybe you haven't had a real relationship with God that's why you feel directionless. Me, I have an "abundant life" because I know my God and He knows me. Ask Jesus, he's never too far away from you. He's even more willing to assist you. You have the choice. I want you to experience the abundant liofe that He has promised, too. When you still feel that emptiness and longing eventhough you think everything's going well, you're heart is not that calloused. Great, there's still a remedy for that...God bless!

You are finding nothing but doubt in the Bible because the world we live in, assuming you are from the U.S., is filled with scientists who come up with non-stop bull. Why do you doubt what millions of the people on Earth believe? Why do you doubt so many amcient scrolls and teachings? Because they are ancient and out-dated? That doesn't mean anything. The beggining of the Earth will always stay the same no matter how much time passes.

I say come over to Atheism. Ever since I left the church I have more friends, I am surrounded by kinder people, I am happy and treat people right, and my life and career have never been better. I hate to say it. But, most christians are truly bad people who spread hate and are closed minded and have lost the purpose and meaning of their religion. Atheism is all about doing what is right. Not what is closed minded and dictated by greedy and often immoral church leaders who are perpetuating a massive oppression of the population to keep their power. It isn't about morals anymore. It is about money, power, and hate.
