What particular native American language did you have in mind? There would be little point, for example, in teaching Sioux in a region where there were no native speakers. Spanish, on the other hand, is the native tongue of over 25 million native born Americans as well as of hundreds of millions around the world. In particular, in an American context, Spanish is just about the most useful language kids can be taught.

Kudos for wishing to expand your horizons. Is there a community of Spanish speaking people in your area? That is where I would start - contact the schools the kids attend, and I´m certain you will find someone who will be willing to teach you. Try to learn in their environment, as you will think 'in' Spanish. As well, tune in to Univision or other Spanish speaking TV Programs, especially NEWS programs which will provide you with the current events, and allow you to compare languages.
Buena suerte!
