Certain foods can cause odors to be secreted from the body within sweat or other bodily fluids (ie: garlic, onions).

Bad breath can be caused by not doing a thourough cleaning of the tongue. Also, alchohol, including mouthwashes containing it, make bad breath worse.

It may not be the person themselves causing the odor. It could be the clothes they are wearing. Certain odors from the surrounding air/environment can embed themselves in clothes (ie: cigarette/cigar smoke odors). Also, if they are not washing there clothes in hot enough water bactera can still be present on them. We all know bacteria thrives in moist, dark areas so if the bacteria is present for example in the armpit of a shirt, if the individual wearing it perspires, this moisture combined with the darkness of the armpit area can cause the bacteria to thrive and produce an odor.

When we think of "B.O." we think of the stink being screted by the individual themselves when in fact sweat dosn't stink at all. It is the bacteria that causes the smell.

A natural way to rid the body of odor would be to wash frequently to prevent bacteria growth and to avoid foods with strong flavours and odors.

While good hygene allows one to smell clean and fresh, there are certain issues that can hinder and obliterate the purpose of trying to keep onself well groomed.

Among these problems lie medical issues such as:
Cancer-when the cells start dying off, if a certain area of the body becomes infected, and thus creates puss, it will give a bad oder.

Bad breath doents always occur because of the lack of brushing your mouth. Internal problems with the pharynx, an untreated and infected cold etc, can lead to horrid breath.

Nutrition-strong spices etc, are hard to degest and most of these smell horrible. There is something in the chemistry compostion of these herbs that cause a bad smell when they are being digested either through excrement or sweat.

The list can go on and on. One must first target the root of the problem in order to solve it. In many cases, as hose mentioned above, what helps is a good detoxification program that will aid the body in getting rid of these smelly substances. Also, regardles of what method the patient chooses in order to get rid of the smell, it will be a very wise decision to drink pleny of water and other healthy fluids. The more water, the faster the detox of these uggly smells.

There is a genetic disease that causes bad body and mouth odor it is called trimethylaminuria Science news magazine described it in a 1999 article: Volume 155, Number 20 (May 15, 1999)
and I quote from it,

"The first case of trimethylaminuria was described in the medical literature in the 1970s, but literary references may go back a thousand years. For example, an ancient Hindu tale describes a maiden who "grew to be comely and fair, but a fishy odor ever clung to her."

Although they show no apparent lack of hygiene or obvious medical symptoms, most people with the disorder report having foul body odors, bad breath, or a bad taste in their mouths. Studies in the last few years have shown that trimethylaminuria results from defects in an enzyme that breaks down trimethylamine, a byproduct of protein digestion released by bacteria living in the gut. This small molecule—the compound that gives fish their fishy odor—smells foul or garbagelike at low concentrations and fishy in larger amounts.

People with the disorder can release trimethylamine through breath, sweat, and urine. A few have a strong odor all the time, but most others experience a less severe smell that fluctuates over time. Researchers speculate that the variability of symptoms indicates that a range of genetic mutations can cause the disease and that stress and diet play a role in triggering symptoms.

here is no cure for fish odor syndrome, but a special diet can alleviate the worst of the odor problems. This low-protein regime restricts the amino acid choline, a building block of protein naturally found in high concentrations in fish, eggs, beans, and organ meats. Some people also report that limiting lecithin, a common food additive that is also naturally found in eggs, soybeans, and corn, helps reduce odor.

Because bacteria in the gut produce most of the trimethylamine in the body, some people have found that low doses of antibiotics, which kill off these bacteria, temporarily help keep odor down".
It is rare but a very distressing disease.

Most body odor is caused by the growth of bacteria, usually in sweat. Sweat normally has almost no odor. Bacteria multiplies rapidly in sweat. The same is true for bad breath, it is mainly caused by bacteria growth in the back of the mouth.

Some odor can be caused by genetics and particular diseases. It is also effected by certain foods we eat.

Another cause can be long term exposure to stinky things such as certain chemicals, fecal matter (such as cow manure), smoking, etc. These can be stored in deep pores where normal cleaning cannot remove it.

Deoderants are the best way to reduce the odor because they can kill the bactieria.

Because it's impossible to get rid of the bacteria that feast on your bodily excretions, and these are generally the organisms that are responsible for B.O. There also is truth to what other answers have said about what you eat making you smell, just like an alcoholic smells of booze through their sweat, chemicals in pungent foods you eat can influence the way you smell.

like intel_knight said... eating and drinking things that can cause excessive build-up of waste in the body.

also undiagnosed diabetics may have a funny odor, like acetone, if they are suffering from ketoacidosis. in addition we all know that alcoholics usually smell unpleasant, as well as people who eat very large amounts of garlic. also rotting tissue has a bad odor such as wound infections. i have also noticed that sometimes a person with a respiratory infection may smell bad as a result of the mucous odor.

but if a person has a foul body odor despite cleaning it probably should be checked out by a doctor.

yes, if smth is wrong with their metabolism.

Sweat is used to get rid of the stuff that the body does not need, so if there is something off inside the body, extra waste comes out.

To get rid of it, stop doing drugs, drinking, eating junk food. Try exercising and drinking lots of water. Might not hurt to fast for a bit.
