WHAT CAUSES CHRONIC DIARRHEA? — A wide range of conditions can cause chronic diarrhea. In developed countries such as the United States, the most common causes are irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis), malabsorption syndromes, and chronic infections. There are also many other less common causes of chronic diarrhea.

The fecal occult blood test detects microscopic amounts of blood in a stool specimen. The presence of blood in stools suggests that diarrhea is being caused by inflammation, celiac sprue, sprue-like syndromes, or cancer.

yes
he probably have a bad hemorrhoid. A hemorrhoid is when the muscle around the anus gets thick. If it gets too big, it stops the flow of poop from coming out. Your husband have to force the poop to come out. While forcing, the poop scratches the hemorrhoid causing blood to come out. I have a uncle that recently have the same problem with blood coming out everytime he use the bathroom. The lost so much blood in a one month period, he passed out one time. He had to go in tot he hospital and in the ER, they had the hemorrhiod remove. Now, he is ok and is normal.

I would recommend you to tell your doctor to go to the doctor to get a colonoscopy. Colonoscopy is when they have a image of the intestines to the anus. Doctor can diagnoise any problem with that procedure done.

Stress is a big factor for those with nervous stomachs and it can cause diarrhea but the added factor of blood in his stools is always the time to seek proffessional help....diarrhea is causeg by not enough moisture in the digestive system ...be sure he is well hydrated in this hot weather...lots of water....caffeine can make diarrhea worse....see a doc about the blood...does he have hemroids?....good luck

It could be a lot of things. The blood could be from the irritation of frequent bowel movements, diverticulitis, or it could be something more serious. Try avoiding carbonated sodas and take fiber supplements. If it doesn't improve he needs to see a gastroenterologist for further work up including a colonoscopy.

It could be serious. I suggest that he call his doctor. Also he may need to see a G. I. doctor to get a Scope done to see if there is anything wrong with the colon. He may have I.B.S. There is a website that you can check out for more details. The Site is www.WebMD

It is time for him to visit a doctor or to be on safe side go to hospital. If he is diagnosed with Crohn's disease see below site under "natural healing."

If there were no doctors, any problem with diarrhea means it is time to give digestive system a rest or break with fasting. If doctors don't know what is wrong or cannot help, see below site on fasting.
