as he is an illegal alien, he needs more supporting papers. they can get marry and he would become a citizen. it is a long process,, not all who married a citizen becomes one because some may have a record and that would be the problem of deportation...even if he is an illegal and no worries of bad record on the country of origin, there is no problem..

There is no sure fire way to become a United States Citizen, other than the legal way.
The first step is that they will need an Immigration Lawyer. The Lawyer will know which papers need to be filed to make Immigration aware that Citizenship is being applied for. They both need to know that he can be deported anytime because he is illegal. Even if they marry, he can still be deported for being here illegally in the first place. If the deportation does not happen, the couple MUST be married for 10 years otherwise, even if she (your Friend) were to sponsor him, if they divorced before the 10-year mark, this would automatically void his application for citizenship. This is done because most people are just looking to marry an American Citizen and once that happens, they usually disappear because they've gotten what they wanted in the first place. Upon their marriage, should he not be deported, the couple in question will be subject to a battery of questions from Immigration. These tests consist of being in two different rooms, with two different Officials of the Immigration Department, answering the same questions designed to "trip you up" just in case you married in order to gain Citizenship to the United States. Questions will be things like "what color underwear does he/she have on today" - "what did he/she have for breakfast this morning" - "when did she have her last period", etc. The Immigration Officials can also make surprise, random visits to your home to see if you are actually living together.
Hopefully your Friend will think long and hard before marrying this man. If he really does love your Friend, he will become a Legal Citizen first, without her help. If not, well, there's your answer.
I hope that my answer has helped in some way.

He doesn't become a citizen. First he has to become a legal resident of this country, but beware, don't let your feelings of the heart take over, they tell you they love you, but after the marriage he can disappear, then start to legalize his true love he has in his country, thousands do it everyday. Do you really know everything there is to know about him. The truth does hurt. Yes another possibility is to go to an Immigration attorney and fork over thousands of dollars to help you. But what will he do for you if he leaves after he legal. Did you know all this when you first met him, if not why didn't he tell you from the get go. Be smart think about it with your brain. Ask others for their opinion and think about it. Don't rush into it, it may haunt you for a very long time.

Getting married only starts the process. As the previous answer states, you should consult an immigration attorney. I know that he must be able to speak English and must learn many things to pass the citizenship test. I also know that before he can become a permanent resident alien he must wait for at least 2 years and it is my understanding that he cannot leave the US during that time.

If your friend is a legal U.S. citizen, and she marries an illegal alien, then, he automatically becomes a U.S. citizen, after they are legally married. That is the law in the United States.

Contact an immigration lawyer. He will do the job for you and tell you what to do. He can also tell you if they can get married and the guy can become legal that way.

Getting married will not automatically give someone citizenship, anyone who tells you this is a moron. He needs to apply via immigration and wait in line. He may have a problem if he has committed crimes here.

Tell her to send him home FIRST!!!!
If they get married here..while he's still an illegal alien, they'll send his *** back home for a long time. Tell her to send him home, apply for a FIANCE VISA, then he can come, they can get married.
(of course after they get married, he's gonna have to go back home AGAIN, so she can petition him as a spouse.)
