could be:

1. Time of the year (the dogs shed just before summer)
2. Fungi
3. Mites (eggs from flies) and developing worms in the skin
4. Hormonal changes
5. Poor diet especially in Vitamin A (eg only bones)
6. Bad living conditions (eg sleeping on concrete)
7. Not enough sun
8. Not enough fat in diet

I suggest you take your doggy to the vet Can you add the dogs breed please a eg: if it is Husky/ Alsatian that would be normal.

In the meantime get a nice brush and brush the hair so any loose hair goes out, and give it a tables spoon of sunflower oil with tea spoon of garlic everyday.

Actually it could be any number of things.. allergies, old age, hot spots (areas of irritation that cause excessive scratching), excessive fleas, or even mange. It depends on where the dog is losing hair, how old the dog is... honestly a number of factors. Best bet is a trip to the vet. They will be able to help with a definitive answer.

He might have dry skin....which will cause excessive shedding. try adding a little vegetable oil to his food...you might have to do it every day at first, but my dog only needs it a couple times a week now.
I got this advise from another member her in answers when I was having the same problem with my dog....his coat looks great now, and sheds much less.

It is summer, though, so maybe your dog is just shedding some excess fur. If there are other signs, say loss of appetite, etc. then you should take your dog to the vet.

It could be ,mange, ringworm, allergies. If the dog has recently had a litter of opups, it could be due to hormonal changes. Only a vet can tell you for sure.

Shedding, bad diet, you should take your dog to the vet. But first check it's skin to see if it has red marks, if yes, then it's a skin disorder. Take it to the vet.

Well, he/she could either have mange, or maybe he/she has a skin problem, my old cat does the same thing, she just pulls out her hair, she gets bald spots, could be Mal-nutrition. you might wanna see a vet.

shedding? or maybe it is due to a poor diet, feet him/her better quality food like pedigree, iams, purina, or eukanuba. don't cheap store brand dog food. it dosn't have all the nurtients your dog needs. take it to the groomers or comb it or bathe it.
