I worked in a vet's office for a while. You should not feed your dog raw meat. There is a chance they will be fine. However, there is an equal chance that the meat will have contaminants. You should never take a chance with your dog. Dogs do not know any better, so it is up to us to do what is right for them. Talk to your vet about this before you attempt it. He/she will be able to give you tips or opinions (never be afraid to call and ask a question... that is their job). Some people believe that it is better to feed dogs a homemade diet. The Dr. that I worked for frowned on this. He said that top quality dog foods (purina, science diet, eukanueba) are thoroughly researched in a lab and formulated with the exact nutrients that your dog needs. Unless you are a doctor or have a degree in nutrition you should not try to feed your dog a homemade diet. MOST IMPORTANTLY: If you do decide to give an occasional treat of raw meat, NEVER give bones and NEVER give pork.

I have always given my dogs raw ground meat. They are wolfs. I grind my own meat and mix in 2 raw eggs and a 1/4 to a 1/2 a cup of olive oil.

It's a really bad idea to feed any dog raw hamburger. It can carry parasites and bacteria.

I wouldn't eat raw meat and I wouldn't feed it to my pet. Why give a domesticated animal a taste of raw blood. It is not in the wild and does not have to 'hunt' and 'kill' it's own food.
Just my opinion but I would cook the meat first. I wouldn't take the chance of getting my pet sick.

You should talk to your vet about your dogs diet, they have lots of nutritional info. If the meat is contaminated with something that is killed when cooked then yes he will get sick. Just like you would. Do some reading and research on the subject, I did and there is a lot of controversy out there. Best to talk to your vet.

Do you think that dogs cooked their food before they became our pets? I wouldn't do it too much, but a little raw meat now and then shouldn't do any harm.

sure, my dog would eat dead pig carcasses he found on a nearby farm and his coat would look really shiny and healthy when he was eating on dead pigs. These pigs were in an advanced state of decomposition so I can imagine hamburger would have no effect on a dog.
