DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INDUCE YOUR OWN LABOR!

Some doctors say that walking or rocking in a rocking chair can help to thin the cervix IF you're ready to go into labor. And obviously those things are safe (within reason).

All the other "remedies"--castor oil, raspberry leaf tea, sex, etc--either don't work, or are unsafe, or both.

A study was published two or three weeks ago that attempted to prove that sex can induce labor. And guess what? Not only does sex NOT bring on labor, it can actually DELAY it! That doesn't mean you shouldn't have sex; I mean, if you have the energy and the interest at the end of your pregnancy, by all means, go for it! But don't have sex thinking that it will induce labor, because the newest and best scientific information says it won't.

I gave birth naturally to three children. I would say to bring on labor safely, some gentle exercise, like walking, really helps. They say that having sex can bring on labor, but I can't say that worked for me.

I know the last days are long. As the baby grows, things can get a little crowded and simple things like eating, sleeping and breathing become real chores. You feel huge and exhausted all the time and you just want to zip up your pants again! But if your pregnancy has been progressing normally, baby will come when she is good and ready. Try to relax, spend a lot of time in meditation. Take a nice, warm bath and drink some chamomile tea. These may be the last quiet moments you have for quite some time!

A laboring woman should always let her hair down. This is an old wives tale, but I think that it does help her to release her stresses and that makes labor easier. The enitirety of all 3 of my labors I not only let down my hair but I also said words like calm and relaxed during contractions. Best wishes

There is quite a few myths out there actually. Evening primrose oil is suppose to help you dialate, which in turn is suppose to encourage labour eventually. Walking, having sex, cod liver oil(do not do that one, tastes awful and you spend alot of time in the bathroom). There is also a number of herbal teas that are suppose to help put you into labour but, everyone I know who tried that route found no results. Someone told one of my friends that eating alot of corn helps put you into labour. Driving over very bumpy roads is a myth that is suppose to help put you into labour and I can't think of any others that I've heard but, there are alot out there, that I do know.

Tell the expectant mother to relax her jaw when encountering a labor pain. Did she take Lamas Classes? That's where I learned that and it helped my wife.

Walk, walk, walk. and whatever you do, do NOT take castor oil, it is so dangerous for the baby and gives you a severe case of explosive diarrhea. a lot of women have braxton-hicks contractions (not true labor) because they get dehydrated so make sure that you drink lots of water.

go for a walk, have sex
some say take castor oil, but that doesnt work- it just makes your stomach hurt and you have to use the restroom
if all else fails, make plans to do something you really want to do... muphys law will prevail haha (whatever can go wrong, will go wrong)
