From the USP DI Advice for the Patient, 26th Edition:
Side Effects of This Medicine (prednisone and other corticosteroids):
Corticosteroids may lower your resistance to infections. Also, any infection you get may be harder to treat. Always check with your doctor as soon as possible if you notice any signs of a possible infection, such as sore throat, fever, sneezing, or coughing.
Less common side effects
Decreased or blurred vision; frequent urination; increased thirst.
Rare
Blindness (sudden, when injected in the head or neck area); burning, numbness, pain, or tingling at or near place of injection; confusion; excitement; false sense of well-being; hallucinations (seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there); mental depression; mistaken feelings of self-importance or being mistreated; mood swings (sudden and wide); redness, swelling, or other sign of allergy or infection at place of injection; restlessness; skin rash or hives.
Other side effects:
More common
Increased appetite; indigestion; loss of appetite (for triamcinolone only); nervousness or restlessness.
Less common or rare
Darkening or lightening of skin color; dizziness or lightheadedness; flushing of face or cheeks; hiccups; increased joint pain (after injection into a joint); increased sweating; nosebleeds (after injection into the nose); sensation of spinning.
I think hyperactivity is a pretty common side effect of prednisone. I know that pharmacists advise patients of this when giving prednisone to children, because it can make them hyper and unable to sleep. Hope that helps.

Yes, the drug can cause mania, as well as fluid retention and unsuspected weight gain. Someone mentioned that it is a steroid, however, it is not an anabolic steroid. It is not the same type of steroids as body builders and pro athletes inject or orally take. DJH

Every drugs has its own side effect. It is unfortunate if a particular drugs fries someones brain. Hence it is wise to study the drugs that doctor prescribes for theirisides effects. Different people are allergic to different drugs. What is toxic to one may not be toward the other.

Corticosteroids (prednisone) are not quite the same as those steroids that are taken by some athletes.

I cant take it. When I was prescribed it a few times, I had outrageous mood swings and swelled from the water retension. I was more irrational and couldnt hold my tongue and was easily agitated.

i would answer yes as well, my daughter was on it off and on in the past for her asthma, although she is young, and i never noticed that symptom.
however like everyone is saying it is a steroid, and well look at the people who abuse them. such as baseball players they are known to just blow up and be irrational

It CAN!
Prednisone should NOT be mixed with certain other meds, ESPECIALLY if you're taking an anti-depressant/anti-anxiety medicine!
But if you're having these side effects, you need to talk to your doctor and stop taking it IMMEDIATELY!
