In some ways yes, like you cannot refuse to serve someone in a restaurant or store due to their race. But in most ways, it is evil and the people CAN get away with it.

It is not illegal to be a racist, but racist behavior in America is Illegal. There are anti-discrimination laws all over the books. There are laws on the books that say all businesses operating in America can not hire a person because of color, creed, or gender, or vise versa.
These are laws put into place to protect Americans from the small amount of racists in our nation.
However, due to the illegal aliens screaming racism, and making people angry, I do see more and more of it emerging, but it is not coming from Americans..
That is why when you walk into a Denny's restuarant you see a diverse amount of people. If we did not have these laws in place, people like myself, of extensive nationality blending, and people who are not white could not enter those places.

YES! Racism in America is illegal.

Tenth Generation American
Put a politician in their place vote "NO" to them, and what ever bill they put in front of you
They won't hear us, we don't hear them.
Remember there are millions of starving Americans that need your help too. Give them back America, and thier right to be free.
Illegal aliens stole their jobs, are you going to let criminals keep them.
It's your choice, your vote.

It is legal as long as you don't hurt anyone. I don't understand why someone would hate a person of different race. I've never been racist, so I don't have that feeling. People are just people, there is no difference between us, we are all made of flesh and blood. Is looking down at other people makes that person feel better? I believe in Newton's Third Law, "For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction." If someone looks down on other people, those people will look down at him too, they won't be repecting him. It is always easy to make enemies, but take much work to get an ally.

Freedom of speech allows people to express whatever they want unless it is extremely derogatory, hateful, etc. Racist words are not illegal unless they suggest killing or harming someone because of their race. Racist actions, such as assault because of race or killing because of race are illegal, just as they would be if it they weren't racist actions. Racism is touchy when it comes to the law. Each situation is evaluated differently and the outcome or punishment will then be judged.

You can be a racist and it not be illegal. There is no law FORCING you to like me.

It is illegal to do certain racist act's, but not to be racist.

What kind of question is this? Only communism will make something like this illegal.
