It's not a matter of confidentiality, illegals do not have those rights. If schools were required to report children who did not have proper credentials, or whose parents could not provide proper credentials, this might discourage some illegals from crossing the border.

This was Answered by Teachers on Oprah.. The schools get paid per student. It doesn't cover much (free lunches, overcrowding, more teachers) but the biggies in the school system gets the money to spend how they see fit. They do know who is Illegal by enrollment forms. The schools have many issues but the biggies do not want to give up that money now.
In the beginning it was not a bad idea. The children benefited and so did the schools. But now because of more programs needed and overcrowding from the mass coming in-and tax payers saying enough-they are in deep you know what. It seems not many looked further down the line.

Many parents lose that information, even legal kids parents. So sometimes a school will overlook it. And there are ways to enroll your kids in school if they are not citizens of the United States. These are meant for people on Work Visas or with Diplomacy/Peace/Volunteer organizations funding their stays in America. However, documentation is needed for these "bypasses" of citizenship requirements. But in short, there are legal ways to enroll a child without a US birth certificate or Social Security number in public school.

There were court cases. It didn't go all the way but it pretty much established the idea that under law once they are here they have to be educated. In California they aren't even allowed to ASK. Mind you, if you are trying to get into a school that 'belongs' to the neighborhood across the street from your house and not to your house, they will enforce keeping you out quite strictly.

However, they are not allowed to ask about immigration status.

It's up to the individual state. They can allow schools to report illegals. They choose not to. And it makes sense. Even if you hate illegals and are resentful of their using our resources, ask yourself this question: would you rather illegal children stay in school or hang out in the streets. Because if we report them, they will not enroll. And before you say I don't care consider what kids on the street would do for crime and gangs.

This is just another item on the agenda to be considered next time Americans vote. Children of illegals should NOT be attending our public schools. Send 'em back and they can go to school in their own countries.
