If you can't put yourself out there, ask a friend, but remember not to shoot the messenger if you don't like the answer. Is this boy a part of your group of friends and you get the feeling he likes you back? Go ask him on your own!!! Is this boy even aware of you? Go ask him on your own!! What have you got to lose? If you can do this, you can do anything, start now!

Ah, yes. The simple yet nerve-wrecking scenario. I've been there many, many times. My simple advice...Go for it! Just do it! (Like Nike...ah, don't sue me!) You will feel better and won't have any regrets...staying up at night thinking "what if...?" or beating yourself up with "I should have done it!"
Just pick an environment you're comfortable with and where you know you'll be alone. Ask him out to the movies as friends and then after wards, say how you feel and add in that "Even if you don't feel the same, I still wish to be friends and will understand our situation." Or something around those lines.
Don't be shy! If he's your friend, he'll understand your situation and if he's more of a distant crush and rejected you, be comforted that he's not a dear friend you might lose.
Opportunities like these will arrive way too many times to count, I know, just be confident and smile no matter what!
Good luck!

This is what I'd do:
Flirt a little, make eye contact, smile, give him a little attention, start a conversation (these may be at different times, different days. . .) See how he reacts. Does he seem interested? If he's interested, let him take the initiative. If he's not, then you can still show an interest when you run into him, but start looking at other guys.
I like the old saying, "Chase him until he catches you."

Don't have friends do it either because that is elementary that shows that your are not brave enough to talk to him then and if you can't say anything at that moment will you ever have anything to talk about. let him know that you exist if he doesn't have any clue who you are but if he does then just start carrying on a conversation then eventually you will become friends and maybe eventually something more. but don't i repeat don't use pick up lines they are a definite turn off. but i have confidence in you. believe in yourself you can do it. relax take a deep breath!! the worst thing he can say is no but you can still just be friends.

Just do what girls do best be flirty, smile and laugh at his jokes. If he likes you then he will get the hint and he will ask you out.

you should know if someone likes you but if you don't, ask him there's no harm in asking if he likes you or not. or ask one of his friends if you don't want to do it face to face. his closet friend should know weither he likes you or not and if he doesn't its not the end of the world there's more fish in the sea

Talk to him. "A life lived in fear is a life half lived". The only way you'll really know is if HE tells you.

Take a chance. If you find out soon enough, you'll know if you're vesting your time correctly or wasting it.
