Ok my daughter is almost 9 and she has alot of dark leg hair and is now getting underarm hair. My husband and I were talking about her shaving, but , I am really not sure on what to let her do. She is very self conscious about the hair. What would you do.

I really think I would let her. Teach her how to be safe and all that, but the whole point of shaving is to get rid of the hair, it's not just something you do for the heck of it when you turn 12 or 13. So if she has hair earlier, then she should start shaving earlier.

The thing was that my parents didn't let me shave 'till I was 12 and I had very hairy legs at your daughters age. I GOT MADE FUN OF ALL THE TIME. Especially when I joined a cheer leading team (the short skirt) it was very embarrassing.

Save your daughter the embarrassment - let her shave!

I don't know if i would help much but when i was in elem school and til this day i have had hairy arms. Very hairy and i would just live with it because i always had my mom tell me i looked more beautiful. Even though i hated it at times because i would get teased, i learned how to be myself and not be scared to be different. Even now people ask why i am so hairy but it doesn't bother me because i knew my mom loved me and that was the only thing that mattered. About the underarm i think she could trim them but not shave them completely. I'm not sure about the underarms. Or if she would feel more comfortable to shave her legs, you could offer it till middle school ( I would think). It depends what community you live in too because some schools have clique. Never mind it gets complicated. But point is ask her what she would like to do and how she feels about it.

Show her how to shave so she can avoid cuts and do it RIGHT. She should shave other kids WILL sadly notice the hair and make fun of her "no kid needs that". My daughter will be 9 in February I will tell her how to shave and buy her her own personal shaving cream and razors when she needs them. It is sad girls go thru theses thing b4 they are mentally ready "periods boobs shaving" it is also a part of being a girl. My son is 10 he has his own Deodorant because he gets sweaty. I started shaving and had my period at AGE 10. It sucks watching your baby grow up! depilatory creams can AND DO cause bad rashes and can even cause Chemical BURNS I would avoid them!.

I have dark hair too. I would use NAIR. So you don't have to worry about her cutting her self. Maybe when she is about 10 let her start shaving. But underarm hair and leg hair can be inbaressing.

I would get her an electrical razor...and teach her how to use it...some children grow up quicker then others!!...and then when shes about 10 or 11 let her shave with a real razor...i started shaving when i was 9...with an electrical razor and a real one when i was 11!!

Let her shave under supervision at first. Same thing going on with my daughter now 12.

Maybe let her try the Nair Bladeless Shaving Kit or a similar brand.

I was the same way. Except I didn't ask my mom I just did it and she could tell after I did it. She just showed me how to do it so I didn't cut my self any more. I think you should let her, but show her or at least give her some advice so she doesn't cut her legs up to bad.

well the legs i wouldn't care to much about at the age of nine but if my daughter had arm pit hair at nine i would show her how to shave it off to save her the embarrassment at school when other kids laugh at her. pier pressure it sucks. lkids can be cruel.

There is not harm at all on going on and letting her shave. Just talk her through it and she will be fine. Just tell her she has to keep up with it! :)
